HealthSouth

I am considering applying for a position with a HealthSouth facility.

According to the website, it is a very large corporation with facilities acros the US.

Does anyone have any experience/insight that would be beneficial to share? Looks as if it is rehab?

Any info appreciated..type of work, shift hours, corporate attitude, support of staff, whatever.

Thanks a bunch!

Same thing in the Healthsouth I have did agency in. Most of the time agency was the only staff there, including CNAs! I noticed that NM talked to their staff like their were less than dirt under their feet! More times then I can remember I have walked into on someone crying! And they have one facility in Columbia, S. C., that I wouldn't go back to if I was starving! And I mean that...totally!

I guess it will depend on the individual reputation of each Healthsouth facility. The one here in Jonesboro, AR has a very good reputation. Staff enjoys working there. If you take the job you'll know soon enough if the people are happy working there.

Yanno----iwould NOT want to take a job as a " litmus test " to find out if folks are happy, MisterArnold. These stories seem quite telling and cautionary. To the OP I would say, ask the nurses who already work there how they feel. You will see a lot in body language and what they say.

In a way you're correct. It does depend on each facility, buttttttttttt...I don't think I would want to go to work for THIS employer:

HealthSouth is the nation's largest provider of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative healthcare services, with nearly 1,700 locations in all 50 states, the United Kingdom, Australia, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia and Canada.

They announced that, on the evening of March 18, 2003, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation served a search warrant at the company's corporate headquarters and were provided access to a number of current and historical financial records and other materials. The agents also served an additional grand jury subpoena on the company on behalf of the United States Attorney's Office, whose investigation has been previously disclosed by the company, relating to the same information. In addition, the company is aware that additional subpoenas were served on certain company employees.

The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit accusing Healthsouth Corporation and its former CEO and Chairman, Richard Scrushy, of engaging in a $2.5 billion accounting fraud.

Over ten employees of HealthSouth, including 5 former Chief Financial Officers, have admitted to fraud and are cooperating with federal officials.

HealthSouth's stock prices had fallen over 80% from the year's high when the NYSE suspended trading of the common stock.

You know what they say....crap flows downhill!

In our area Healthsouth runs "occupational acute care" clinics. In other words, employers use them to treat minor OTJ injuries, physicals, and my home heaklth agency has them do TB tests. I have been there three times in a year, and each time the staff was different, including the MDs. I am suspicious of any place with that turnover. BTW, the staff is almost exclusively MAs- only met one RN,

Shoot you don't expect them to pay an RN, when they're stealing money from them...ie as taxpayers! Because that is exactly who these CEO have been stealing from the tax payer!

Evidently corp American who hollers the loudest about welfare, but have NO problem ripping off the govt thru continuous cases of medicaid/medicare fraud! But do they go to jail??? NOooooo they just pay fines, and have to give the money back on a timetable that won't shut the corp down!!

Got to keep those jobs going, so you can keep letting them steal your hard earned mo ney:rolleyes:!!!

I just had to reply to this one since the headquarters where Scrushy's office was is about 30 min from here.............A g/f of mine worked for one of the clinics..... when he sold then stepped down as CEO, then the stocks crashed she lost about 15K of her retirement......... another friend of mine worked at the main healthsouth hosp here........ lost his retirement........when scrushys assets were frozen, he pleaded before the judge that he needed 70K a month to live......... now I ask you, wth does he have that he HAS to have 70K a month to live?????? Well, 9 homes, 22 cars, 5 yachts and a private plane. Needless to say they unfroze his assets. I saw on the news last week where he was pleading the 5th on every question he was asked in Washington....... if he didnt do anything wrong, whats he hiding??? If you want to know more about Health South....... go to http://www.al.com choose The Birmingham News, and do a search for HealthSouth or Richard Scrushy........... Im sure you will find more than enough info

Here is another site, and a quote taken from it!http://www.systoc.com/newscomments/news/march2003/031903hs.htm

While the scheme was ongoing, HealthSouth's senior officers and accounting personnel periodically discussed with Scrushy the false financial statements, trying to persuade him to abandon the scheme. Scrushy insisted that the scheme continue because he did not want HealthSouth's stock price to suffer. Indeed, in the fall of 1997, when HealthSouth's accounting personnel advised Scrushy to abandon the earnings manipulation scheme, Scrushy refused, stating in substance, "not until I sell my stock."
