This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
Hi Pam!!! Thanks for not lurking anymore! Best of luck to you. It's tough making a habit and lifestyle out of being healthy.
Wonder why that is? Because while it takes some work the rewards are many. I feel so much better when I live right, but yet I sabotage?
I did good today when a coworker brought me some bananna pudding from the doctor's lounge. I thanked her. Put it aside and gave it away. That's pretty disciplined for me. LOL
So I had finally finished putting my bike together a few days ago. So far I've rode it twice but I can only make it around my condo's complex because I get short of breath and my legs absolutely hurt after a short ride. I guess if I keep riding the bike for short periods I'll be able to do more.
WHOA, great big giant surprise! I had bought a skirt a couple years ago w/o trying it on, it was my size but no elastic, so when I tried to button and zip there was a 3 inch gap where the twain would not meet - tried it on a few other times when I had lost a little wt - anyway - was on the phone w/ a friend getting ready for church, saw it in the back of the closet, and thought, eh, lets see how much further I need to go before it fits.
Lo and behold it buttoned - AND ZIPPED - quite easily! And this is the first day of my period!!! GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEwillikers! Thank you God! how fun it was to wear to church - and still be able to BREATHE!
Hi! I have been lurking for awhile and decided to post today because it seems that you guys are very encouraging. I have been dieting all my life, or so it seems, and would really like to get to a point where it is just a lifestyle and not always such a struggle. I am in my second semester of NS and so do not want to gain anymore weight! I want to lose it and keep it off. So here I go again. I contacted a neighbor of mine so I can have a walking buddy and someone to be accountable to and am thinking about doing WW again. It is nice to have a walking partner, but she is shorter than I am and i feel like I am not really getting a workout. I guess I will just have to find some time to do it on my own so I can sweat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Pam:p
Hi Pam! glad to see you! Wish you lived next door - I would do it with you! Maybe that's what I need to do is find an exercise buddy... that is the hardest part of this - just staying disciplined to exercise!

Oh yeah baby, banana pudding? You BET that takes a "little" discipline! (drool)...

GREAT job!
you know I have not ONCE taken my bike out this summer that I recall. That is sad. I spent good $ at the end of the season last yr to tune it up just so I would jump right on it when spring came - but - no dice...
It's the flight of stairs I have to do that is so daunting ... (and the pile of clothes on top of it 90% of the time!!). Again, a buddy would be most helpful for this!
Don't give up Michigan!!!! You're going to be amazed at your progress if you keep at it, no matter how short the distances. And yes, you're going to be sore at first too. Do some leg stretching exercises to help with that.
Way to go Zoe!!!
A friend who haddened seen me in a while said "have you lost weight?". I feel down at his feet and cried. Not really, but it's always nice to hear that. I usually get the opposite "you've gain weight since the divorce haven't you?". :)
I probably have lost one or two pounds at the most the past couple of weeks. I've been eating o.k. but not reducing calories or dieting the laslt week. I even had four cookies at a staff meeting. But I went to the Sun-Tues-Thurs. and got some good workouts in. I'll probably go tomorrow sometime, and Monday they are open for a few hours.
Ya know, I thought bike riding would be easy but I guess not since I've been out of the game for so long. I've been up since 5am, can't really sleep well after work because I'm so wound up but I'm about to go for a short bike ride afterI finish my coffee. Thanks for the encouragement Tweety. Have a good weekend.

Oh yes - I know the feeling! Had a customer who came in who'd not seen me for some time say that I'd lost a "ton of weight!" he was the first to have said it without prompting. I wanted to kiss him! But a)his girlfriend was giving us murderous glances as it was, and b) he drunk. ROFL!
I know that when I exercise I carry myself a WHOLE lot differently - there is a lot to be said for it!

I hope you have a nice ride! it will get easier and easier!
(now why don't I say these things to myself? groannnnn....)
just thought i'd post an inspiration for anyone who might be on the fence about getting into activity/exercise - you can do it!!!
18 months ago i could barely walk across the room. :imbar i was hospitalized with asthma, tachycardia & gastroparesis; was throwing up & taking round-the-clock aerosolized treatments.
when i was discharged from the hospital, walking my dogs around the block caused shortness of breath & abdominal pain. there's a small rise at the end of my street we jokingly called, "mount deland" - it's maybe 3 feet in elevation over a block & i could barely hike up it!
24 hours ago i finished a trial run of my upcoming triathlon:
today i feel great!
this didn't happen overnight. i've been consistently training & taking very good care of my self (body, mind, spirit) for over a year.
i don't write this to brag - i write this to say:
if i can get in shape - so can you!!!
move on!

I've got a great walking plan I can e-mail you if you like - just send me a message & I'll be happy to send it along. It's designed for people who are truly just getting started. It may be a little basic for you if you've been doing any activity. I designed it for my 65-year-old mom.
Let me know - send me a priv. message as I don't always check the threads. - Kim
