This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
I definitely see your point. Not sure how that would work exactly, but the affects of sugar alone in American health is overwhelming. So few understand the impact of diabetes on our health care system. If obesity & diabetes were to be cut just in half, the medical "system" might be able to afford to do so much more in other areas!
Hi everyone!
Just finished a short but enjoyable visit with my brother. The plumbing saga seems to be finished, everything held up just fine. Splurged on a Mexican dinner (mmmmm, chicken enchiladas....).
Not much going in the exercise department. DH shared his URI with me and I'm feeling too under the weather to want to do much more than type a bit.
Hope all is well with you all!!!
Blue, glad you enjoyed your visit with your brother, definately seems like an occasion to splurge.I'm going to the gym this morning in a few. Can't say I ate well over the weekend. Very lazy in the cooking department. I started another course today....two more left for my BSN!
Are you doing an online course, Tweety?
I think it's normal to slip a little, and healthy. My girls and I went skiing on Saturday and stopped at a bakery on the way and bought some delicious macaroons. I ate several of them.
I think if you're too strict you are setting yourself up for severe backsliding, just my opinion. Today I'll be back on the wagon. I plan on doing some arduous housecleaning and other pressing chores. Plus go on a long walk. I wish this snow would start melting, I still have quite a bit on the ground here.

That's an EXCELLENT point! And look how far we've come with heart disease, hypertension education, people are more healthy in that area what with increased education and awareness. We have hardly scratched the surface with obesity and diabetes...

Hi everyone! I had such a great clinical experience this weekend. I started off with a 22 yo on day #1 with n/v, abd. pain & dehydration who was discharged and ended up with a 69 yo overdose on coumadin. It was very interesting and I learned a ton. I also got in a ton of walking - so yeay!
I am working on being good - my co-worker and I are working on this weight-loss together now, so hopefully that will help. I feel like I've lost a little based on my clothes, but it's not showing up in the scale yet. Patience though, I know.
Hope y'all had a great weekend! I am gone tomorrow and Wednesday, so hopefully I'll see everyone again on Thursday!

Hey Sarah!
Glad clinicals went so well!
I know what you mean re: clothes fitting better. Even if the scale doesn't budge.
(WARNING TO GENTLEMEN, female topic approaching. Divert your eyes if you can't handle it....)
Last week I started being able to hook my bra one set of hooks tighter! Woot! Back fat seems to be on it's way out! lol!

Sarah, what happened with the 69 y.o., was it an intentional OD or just his #'s were off?
Congrats on the wt loss and yeah, it is better to have a partner in "crime" when you're trying to lose wt, good for you!

That has always been my way of knowing I am losing - when I can move the hooks tighter... lol
Haven't been able to for quite some time!!
WooHoo Blue!!! Congrats!!!
Zoe, it was NOT intentional, but wow, her PT was over 80 and INR was over 7! She was a mess. But she was doing great by the time I went home and the Doc told her she would probably be released the following day - yeay! :) I soooooo love nursing!!!
Well all, I am on my 3rd 32ozer of water and getting ready to head home. Had my hubby pick up some salad when he went to town today, so I plan on eating healthy tonight too!

In my opinion, this obesity crisis is of such a magnatude, that the government needs to intervene. We need clamp down on the junkfood industry the same way we've done with smoking. The government doesn't mind interfering in a million other things, afterall.
I'm not talking a total ban, but maybe a sin tax type thing, plus limiting advertising, and doing things like NY city did with the transfat ban. Plus severely controlling what goes on the the public schools food wise.
