Healthier Living Support - Part III

Published

Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!

Okay, a few more quick portion sizes for easy veggie consumption, per manufacturer lables:

V8 juice - 12 oz bottle = 1 1/2 cups veggies, recommended daily = 2 1/2 cups of veggies.

Progresso Minestrone Soup - 1 serving = 2 veggie exchanges. 1 serving is 1/2 a can. Personally I have no trouble polishing off the entire can for lunch or dinner. Add 1/2 an apple and you have 5 servings done in 1 meal.

I had to get out the strong reading glasses to get this info. It is listed on the label under diet exchanges in extremly small print, but it's there!

Hey, if Zoe can count coffee as a vegetable (and apparently a fruit, LOL) can I count my shower as my 5-10 a day? I used green apple shampoo, cherry-almond lotion and cinnamon toothpaste (they say cinnamon is good at reducing the risk of DMII)? Oh, shoot, I used warm vanilla sugar soap . . . and I'm trying to avoid carbs.

The older I get the more I've noticed that they're increasingly using extremely small print ;)

Have you seen the commercials for the "soup" diets? Basically, eating a can of soup for a meal. The more I think about it, the better it sounds--as an adjunct, not an entire diet, of course :nono: It's filling, fairly nutritious, and if you make your own, not too high in sodium. And I just can't get over the idea that a real meal should be warm.

Weighed in this a.m. and I am exactly where I was a week ago. That is fine with me!! After this week at work, little exercise (tho I did make it to Curves the last 2 days) I am pleased I didn't gain!

Hey we missed you! And good going, esp given how much you were working!!

Hey Zoe - you just might be getting more fruits/veggies than you know. The average apple is actually 2 servings, per most references I have seen. Same with bananas, unless it is a small one. The general U.S. super-size portion thing works to your advantage if you are doing it with fruits & veggies.

Yeah, I noticed that - it doesn't work to my advantage in the "yummy" dept tho! ha ha

So all you guys are getting me motivated to go back to school. I need/want to do the online RN - BSN thing. My husband has been pursuing a promotion, tho that has been temporarily put on hold lately. Need to have a portable program.

Wouldn't that be cool? Go for it!

Univ. of Wy. wants me to complete the application process before they will tell me what classes they will accept, how many I need to take, etc. You have to pay to apply to figure that out? :angryfire

Tres stupide if you ask me... Not a friendly way to get TUITION money out of you!!

O wait, that's a protein...

"O wait, that's a protein..."

Actually, I think it counts as a fat.

Being relatively new to the site - how do I quote a previous message and have it show up in those tidy little windows instead of in the reply message like it is here?

Exactly my thoughts, but the person I talked with wasn't budging!

The only thing I know to do is to hit "reply" and have it come out like it is here.

For the multiple windows, I have to do it the long way, and copy your

[ QUOTE = Bluehair; 2039127 ] (minus the spaces of course)

I "copy and paste" it, plus the text, rather than hand type it.

I leave what text I want to refer to ie "how do I quote a previous message", and then sign it off with the [ / QUOTE ] (minus the spaces) -- then if I want to do a 2nd or third box I start it with the [ QUOTE = Bluehair; 2039127 ] and end it with the [ / QUOTE ]

I know there is an easier way! And there is also a way to quote multiple people! But I haven't figured it out yet!

{{{{Bluehair}}}}}

As to the fat - well, yah, it is mostly fat - (eyes rolling) - but isn't it/doesn't it have protein in it?

That's too bad :( Well, if they are that rigid about that, they are probably that rigid about other stupid stuff...

Good point! Too bad, too, because they were a little less expensive per credit hour. I had hoped being a little smaller school there might be a more personal touch. Seems like some of the bigger places just have their process down a little better, more streamlined and as a result more helpful.

Bunch o dummies LOL

Well I set my alarm for 10 am, I have no idea WHY! It was probably good cuz after sleeping 3 hrs I was wide awake for another 3 - maybe I needed it. Anyway, Sunday School STARTS at 10 - so I was out of the house without bkfst (at least I had clothes on tho!) Stopped and got coffee for a church lady afterwards - she is in a nursing home for a knee replacement - I had sorta promised her - so I just sat down to eat my first meal about 1:30. Didn't kill me but I don't like to risk my blood sugar going down like that ...

so - a fruit and a veg - rice - chicken - and a coffee  (so another fruit... WAIT! I mean the COFFEE not ME!)
