Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.

This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.

It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. Thanks Muffie and Tweety!

I think you're right Muffie - if you can't eat "right", at least make the best choice for yourself based on what you have available. :) I would have preferred a salad, but I can't quite eat those while driving - hahaha!

Gosh Tweety - don't you just want to slap people sometimes?

I bumped into an acquainstance just now at the grocery store. Not a good friend, just someone I know and bump into now and then. "I thought that was you! You've gained some weight, I can see it in your face."

:angryfire Well, I can see why he's not a friend . . . So sorry. I'm sure you took the high road, but I'd have been sorely tempted not to.

Sarah, you'll ace the test :) One of my teachers told us about a study that said that students who had a positive attitude about tests scored better than those who didn't. Although, if you've studied a lot, it makes sense that you'd be feeling a little more optimistic about a test than if you hadn't . . .

Those med/surg tests can be a bear, but you'll get through. When do you graduate?

Muff--you've been doing so well, I bet the scales reflect your effort. I hope you're doing the :monkeydance: (and then you can count that as your aerobic exercise for the day, LOL)

I'm trying to eat well for the day--I've already mapped out my food plans. Now all I have to do is follow them ;)

I like the food for thought Muffie - it's a good point, one we should remember since we have to live in our bodies - hehe.

Thanks hiker! I do study like crazy, but sometimes the answers to the questions are just elusive anyway. I am on the high honor roll, so I am really proud of that because I have put so much work into it, but I am hoping I can stay there - hehe. I am just starting the 2nd semester (well, actually we did summer & fall, so technically it's the 3rd semester of 6 rather than the 2nd semester of 4 - we do summer semester too since we are weekend/evening people) of my ADN, so I will graduate in the fall of 2008. I actually can't believe it, it seems like I just started and I have already been going for 8 months, it's a good feeling! :) Anyway, thanks for the positive thoughts - that helps!

Sarah - Good luck on the test! I remember those days all too well, I know you'll do just fine!

Tweety - What do you say to a comment like that?! I totally don't get some people, they just say things that I wouldn't even dream of saying to someone. But it sounds like it didn't bother you too much, that's good.

So I'm finally on the road to healthier living! I've posted on this thread I don't know how many times about needing to eat better, exercising, etc. Well I'm finally doing it!!!! :)

I had my first workout at Curves today, and it went great. I'm excited about it. I plan on going 3 times a week. I also went walking tonight for 30 minutes. I plan on walking each night that I don't work. I just can't see how I could fit a 30 minute walk in on the nights that I work.

On Monday I started on the diet/healthy eating plan. I got the "YOU on a diet" book by Dr. OZ, that follows the Real Age plan. So I've totally cut out white pastas, white flours, enriched flours, high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, etc. Those are the things I absolutely can't have. I have to read the labels and make sure it doesn't have any of those ingredients in the first 5 ingredients. Then I have to make sure it has less than 4 grams of sugar per serving. Have to limit the saturated fats to less than 4 grams per serving, which means I am eating hardly ANY red meat at all. They say you should limit red meat to once a week, have about 4 ounces. So I've been eating a lot of chicken and fish.

So far I've been doing ok with it. There's so much I'm confused about though.

Do you guys add Splenda or any kind of sweetener to your foods? I just need some sweet flavor added to some stuff, but I don't know if I should be doing that or not. I've been eating steel cut oats for breakfast and have to add a bit of Splenda to help flavor it up a bit, I just hope that's ok.

Someone said something about resisting the temptation of donuts at work. Luckily for me they never have donuts at work! My biggest weakness is going to be pizza. Ahhhh how I love my pizza. Seriously I used to eat frozen pizza many times during the week. And sometimes at work we'll order pizza. There's a recipe in the book for whole wheat pizza, I wonder how that is ..... the name just doesn't sound very appetizing though lol.

Thanks for the encouragement Rain - I will be happy to have this first test done with so I will know what to expect for the rest of them in this class. ;) I'll try not to panic too much - hehe.

Hey, congrats on all the work you are doing, that is awesome! Nothing feels better than when you start being good and then when it becomes noticeable you feel like a million bucks! I am so glad you are working on it, it is hard to get up the motivation and keep it going, but I know you can do it!!!

Hey everyone! Have a great day, I'm off to do a home visit with a co-worker and then headed to study like a mad woman. :D

Hi everyone!

I have been clocking in an INSANE amount of hours between last week and this week (a little over 100!). No time to post, but have had a few quick reads of this thread off and on. I would also be one of those 1 sleeve is a portion of fig newtons people!

Rain - I just found something that is helping me beat the whole pizza craving thing as I am also an addict. Try the frozen SouthBeach ones. The crust is whole grain, and it does microwave pretty well overall. Now it's not like fresh out of the oven, but it definitley helps curb my craving and keep me on track, and it's not too bad either.

Tweety - Personally I can never think fast enough in those situations. One of the old timey responses that might have worked well would have been "Yes, but at least I can lose weight!".

Sarah - Happy studying!!! Good luck!

Hiker - how are you doing on your goals for the week. I am giving myself a pat on the back here. :yelclap: Not going to meet my exercise goals given my work schedule, sorry to say, but I HAVE stayed on track diet wise! Even am getting my 4 servings of fruits/veggies a day the way I wanted! :w00t:

Later, everyone! Hope to be able to chat more this weekend!

Thanks! I don't want it often but when I do it's the large stuffed with lots of ... stuff... so I will try it!

"Yes, but at least I can lose weight!".

Implying that he can't change "ugly"? lol

Not going to meet my exercise goals given my work schedule...

I always notice that when I work too much or get too busy helping other people, that my well intentioned efforts to care for myself suffer. How come I always let myself come in LAST!

Rain . . . :biggringi I'm happy you're giving yourself the gift of health :). Way to go!

Sheesh, Blue; I'm getting tired just reading your hours this week ;). Great job on meeting your eating goals. I know when you're working a lot of hours there's no way to fit in exercise, too--at least not without giving up sleep.

I'm doing OK on my goals. I've eaten well today portion wise and I've waited until I was hungry before I ate, so I'm pleased with that. I haven't always gotten all my fruit/veg, but definitely more than I usually get, so I'm giving myself credit for that. If I don't, then who will, right, LOL? And I'm thinking ahead to next week's goals--I kind of like doing them in weekly segments; that way I have the freedom to change to meet my needs.

No gym today, I had a loooong clinical day and I chose not to be gone additional hours from my kids. I'm going to try to get in sometime tomorrow, though.

I think giving up whites and corn syrup is only good. My husband has been doing most of the shopping (only 14 weeks until graduation, woohoo) and he tends to non-healthy foods, but I'm doing the best I can, all things considered ;)

Oh, and I did manage to get my hair done, one of my goals for the week!
