Greetings. Deb is going to put a sticky on this thread and eventually delete the other.
This is the thread where members come to share their journey to wellness and wholeness.
It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. All posters are welcome (not just Premium Members) and encouraged on a periodic basis to share what you're doing, what you need to do and how you're going to do it, and what you know!
Zoe, Kashi makes one vegan dish a "mango black bean" frozen dinner that's good. It's good whole grains, so I think those are better than the other frozen dinners you mention. The "eggless" salad doesn't taste too eggy, but has tofu and the other fixin' of a salad (onion, vegan mayo, celery, etc.) so it makes a good sandwich and you don't miss the eggs. They add tumeric to give it a yellow eggy color. :)
Yep, I really liked that "mango black bean" Kashi dinner - I didn't think I would (the nose was wrinkling big time) but I was pleasantly surprised!
Zoe, you might make a good vegetarian? LOL Speaking of nutrition, have you read up on the connection between bipolar and omega 3's? I was reading a trashy mystery and the main character was bipolar and was taking fish oil for it.
I'm a little stressed today with some potential life changes and not sleeping well, and stress eating. Not good. I should try eating well during my stressful time, wouldn't that be a novel idea?

I might make a good vegetarian? I suppose - it would take some brainwashing tho - having been "brought up Atkins" and all. I remember one long weekend going to a retreat where everything was gourmet vegetarian - well I was afaid I was going to faint from lack of protein; I have hypoglycemia and I was afraid that having no meat I would have some hypoglycemic episodes. Lo and behold I was fine, and of course vegetarians get plenty of protein if they know what they're doing! And the food was absolutely delicious!
I haven't heard of bipolar being helped by Omega 3, it's worth checking out. Omega 3 is good for so many things isn't it? Actually, I think the Eskimos are more healthy because freezing organs makes them last longer...
Actually my bipolar has been very steady, I am on a good mix of meds, yes, but also my spiritual practice being stepped up has made ALL the difference! I just love it - feeling somewhat "normal" if there is such a thing! But as soon as I let up on seeking God every day - life gets tougher.
I pray you get through this stressful time, Tweety - oh, I don't need to pray you THROUGH - I know you will make it - I guess what I mean is "with a minimum amount of damage"!

Thanks Zoe, it's worse today and I seriously need hugs and prayer.Hypoglycemics need complex carbs as much as protein. Protein is so over rated. There's plenty of protien in whole grains, nuts, beans and soy.
I'm glad you're doing well Zoe. :)
Not exactly a hug TO you, but close enough ...

Hi Zoe,
Here is an article with some good info (but dated)

Thanks Zoe. A little better today, but the coming months are going to be rough, as I'm going through the end of my nearly 10-year relationship.
I'm going to make a vow here and now to continue with my path of wellness and not give into pity, or depression. I'm going to feel my feelings. I'm also going to continue to exercise, eat well, foster other friends and take care of myself.
This morning I'm going to the "hot yoga" class.

I left a note in your blog, Tweety, I am awful sorry I think you are right on! When something ends, sometimes we blame ourselves (somehow) and we self-destruct a little. It's good that you are thinking well of yourself! (pun intended!)
Thanks again Zoe. I'm an emotional roller coaster right now, and my tendancy is to isolate and self-destruct. But at 47 I know that about myself and I'm going to not to that today. :)
I made it to yoga today and I've eaten well. I took a long two-hour nap. Which is good because I'm not sleeping well. :)

That's good - I'm glad you've had some time to regroup! I'd be worried if you weren't rollercoasting a bit...
Did I mention I'm taking Dad in for a bladder biopsy tomorrow? Has cancer cells in his urine - has survived prostate cancer (radioactive seeds) and had polyps that were malignant in his bladder x 2. I am not freaking out cuz we have been down this road and he is SO POSITIVE - (thinks that with positive thinking one can avoid needing GLASSES! I'm serious!).
I have cancer on both sides of the family
