I don't post often in this thread, but I check in every now and then. Well, today I have some good news to report.

I haven't been doing well on my weight loss lately -- gaining 8 pounds over the past 5 months. It's been VERY discouraging as I have been EXCELLENT about my exercise program and reasonable with my diet over the holidays. I do a 30-45 minute exercise DVD 5 or 6 times per week religiously and eat low/moderate carbs as I am pre-diabetic. My cholesterol and glucose labwork drawn on 1/24 were absolutely perfect! (Total cholesterol = 148 and HbA1C = 5.9)

However, I have been very tired and cold lately and have trouble concentrating on things. I just push myself through each day doing what I need to do, trying to "hold on" until the next break in my not-all-that-busy schedule when I can do nothing, which is what I really want to do. I was afraid that my mononucleosis had returned. And I couldn't seem to prevent that weight gain no matter how hard I exercised! I was frustrated and discouraged. That's probably why I stayed away from this forum.

Have you diagnosed me yet? Yep ... my labwork showed I have developed an underactive thyroid. I took my first dose of Synthroid this morning and I can't wait to start feeling better! And ... while I know it is not supposed to be used as a weight loss strategy ... I am thrilled that one expected result is that I will start losing weight again. Hooray!

Wish me luck. I can't get over the fact that here I have been for the last few months, exercising my little heart out ... trying to lose weight to no avail. The cards were stacked against me. It feels like all that effort was a waste of my time and energy, but I know that is not the case. Just think how much weight I would have gained if I hadn't increased my exercise. I'd be in much worse shape.

Sorry this got so long.

Yep :)

And the good news is, you have already started conditioning your heart and muscles, so it won't be like starting from scratch - you already DO have a healthier body!

Altho the outer manifestation will be a great perk ;)

Glad you found out what was wrong before you gave up! :yeah:

llg, I hope you start feeling better soon. Getting old sucks doesn't it?

Been a bit stressed and tired myself this week. Work has not been fun, and I'm having "issues" with staff. It's working itself out though.

I'm going to the State Fair on Sunday (yes we have it in February in Florida). Would you think less of me if I had a fried twinky? ugh....I can feel my arteries clogging already. Maybe a fried Snickers? LOL

I noticed a difference right away when I started taking the Synthroid. 2 or 3 hours later, it felt like my body was "waking up." Now, after 5 days, I feel 5 years younger! I have a lot more energy, am more alert, am not as cold, etc.

I've lost 1.5 pounds in the past 5 days without making any changes in my diet and/or exercise -- which might just be normal fluctuation. But of course, I am hoping that it is not. I am hoping that my basic routine of diet and exercise is actually sufficient to be losing weight. We'll see.

But I am taking so many drugs now! I don't like that. I am up to 10 pills per day plus one extra pill (high dose Vitamin D) per week. That's not counting any fiber pills I take to keep my glucose down and help me feel full so that I eat less. Thank goodness I have good perscription drug coverage!

I never had a fried Twinkie -- but it sounds REALLY good. :-)

Thank God, man that's great! Wish that would be the case for me but I'm already on thyroid, sigh... ;)

Thanks everybody. I wish I would have tried WW sooner.

By the way, the "fried snickers" sounds delicious....

I regret not having the fried Snickers. Life is to short. LOL

llg, glad that you're feeling better. I'm trying to avoid medication myself, but you do what you gotta do and it seems to be working for you.
