Zoe, Your plan sounds good. I think us Americans are too materialist and driven. In my opinion, Europeans know how to pace themselves better, and savor life. They also take the time to prepare healthy meals instead of eating fast food. I want to emulate some of those postive qualities.

Funny you say that, I've always wanted to live there LOL

And I was reading a book recently, French Women Don't Get Fat

Zoe,

I thought of you the other day...I was coming back from the senior meal and I had to wait while the turkey finished crossing the street.......lmao......I love living in the country, I love volunteering with the senior meal, helping where it is needed and appreciated. Everyone looks out for everyone else.

My dh and I just moved here from Colorado.......and simplifying life is good. We went from an overcrowded city (where most people were ill tempered) to the country, where life is slower, and neighbors look out for each other. I live in a gated community, that is mostly retired folks, and they keep an eye out on my dh and I, and in return we help them when we can. It will even be better when I can work from home instead of traveling.

Right now, I am just ever so greatful for what I have and in some ways for what I don't.

re the Turkey, I had to LOL! nut ...

Yawwwwn... speaking of simple... why can't I sleep? (when I am supposed to)

I mean, I can SLEEP, just not at the preferred TIME!

Snow is purty tho ... the sky is a nice rosy pink...

Zoe,

Is there a preferred time to sleep? I kinda just take advantage of anytime I can sleep.

About the turkeys, we have a bunch of wild ones running around, but usually they are in pairs and they just mosey around, taking their time. This time I only saw one, but not worried, the others are out there somewhere.

I love the city life, but I do probably have too much stuff. What's interesting is that if I wanted to downsize to a smaller place I'd wind up paying more, because of the inflated real estate prices, including rental apartments. Oh well.

I'm behaving, eating well and I went to the gym yesterday. Today is a work day. :)

Tweety,

I thought I loved the city life until a drive by shooting changed my mind, and it really wasn't the shooting, but the police officers response......"what did you expect?" and so now I have a bullet hole in my truck and we never heard back from the police again.......so if that is city living, I will certainly take the country over that anyday, and if we do want to go out.....the nearest medium sized town is only 30 mins away, and the nearest large town is 1 1/2 hours away, and besides I drive to the big city to work every weekend. We have saved alot of money by moving to OKC from Colorado.....the cost of living was ridiculous there.

Good for you, you sound like you are behaving...not doing so good here, but hoping to start all over brand new today and do better.

Funny you say that, I've always wanted to live there LOL

I just saw that book in the book store. It sounded interesting.

As far as city life, it doesn't agree with me. I like visiting cities though.

That's our philosophy too. We live WAY out (2.5 hours to the nearest airport). Visit the city on a weekend now and again for a little shopping, a little variety in eating out, but live in the country and watch the wind blow, the sun set, and the skunks reign supreme over all they survey.

:lol2:

The skunks don't reign surpreme at my place, I've trapped and killed well over 100 of them. My animosity with them is of Biblical porportions.

We tried the trapping thing. Used a live trap we borrowed from a neighbor. DH got sprayed for his troubles, we had to throw out the clothes he had on. He gased the little begger using emissions from the truck. We cheer whenever we see their carcasses on the roadside.

One thing I'm doing is selling a rental property that I own. Then, I want to pay off my house with the money from that, and not try to be a mogul in any way, shape, or form any more. I want to try to cut back unneccesary expenses. Everything you own creates work for you. Along that vein, I want to make a rule never to work more than my scheduled shifts at work.

Today, I cut down an extra cherry tree that we didn't eat the cherries off of, and I moved a Royal Anne Cherry tree near to it's place, I hope it does well. I was emotionally attached to that tree that I cut soley because my late husband planted it 13 years ago. I don't want my emotional attachments to complicate my life anymore. Sometimes the past can bog us down.

Good for you! I'm in the process on cutting back on my way-too-many hours at work too. Will be working on my BSN so I can qualify for some other options. We did the rental thing and have vowed to NEVER AGAIN be landlords. Especially in TX where the laws pretty much protect dead beat renters for about a year. What a pain. And then when you sell the place the IRS has their hands out big time for capital gains issues. If you haven't sold yet, you might want to look into what your options are in that regard to try and defer some of the taxes from sale. Definitely get some professional input on it all, there is more there than meets the eye. Some of the capital gains are figured from any rent you have collected over the years, depreciation on the property you might have claimed, etc. We were lucky we made enough on the sale we weren't out of pocket any money (we paid IRS from proceeds) but I have had some friends who were digging deep into savings trying to get the whole thing done.

I'm with you - less is more the older and wiser I get!
