Should religious family-owned companies be required to cover contraceptives under their insurance plans? The high court says no.
I'm curious how you nurses feel about this? Please take a second to vote in our quick poll.
This is a highly political topic, I'd rather not turn this into a hot argumentative subject, so please keep your comments civil :) But please feel free to comment. Thanks
Here is an article on the topic:
Hobby Lobby Ruling Cuts Into Contraceptive Mandate
In a 5-4 decision Monday, the Supreme Court allowed a key exemption to the health law's contraception coverage requirements when it ruled that closely held for-profit businesses could assert a religious objection to the Obama administration's regulations. What does it mean? Here are some questions and answers about the case. What did the court's ruling do?The court's majority said that the for-profit companies that filed suit-Hobby Lobby Stores, a nationwide chain of 500 arts and crafts stores, and Conestoga Wood Specialties, a maker of custom cabinets-didn't have to offer female employeesall Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptivesas part of a package of preventive services that must be covered without copays or deductibles under the law. The companies had argued that several types of contraceptivesviolate their owners' religious beliefs. The ruling also covers a Hobby Lobby subsidiary, the Mardel Christian bookstores.

Yes, we do pay premiums but that is a fraction of the employer contribution. The employer is still paying for the drug. All the woman need do is foot the bill for these 4 drugs out of 20 that Hobby Lobby objects to. We should all be doing that anyway. If we want to have everyone out of our business and bedroom practices then we should not expect them to contribute financially to our choices in that area.
So your employer should get approval over how you treat your testicular cancer. If they believe that testicular cancer is caused by demons, your only treatment option is exorcism? After all, you want everyone out of your business, then you shouldn't expect them to contribute financially to your choice of healthcare.

And it could well happen, because the corporations' beliefs are now protected with this precedent, even though science says otherwise.
I am curious...if the supreme court says that the employer can have religious exception to not pay for medicine....why does the government persecute parents who do not treat with medicine based on religious objection.

Most of us understand that the SCOTUS just opened ANOTHER can of worms which will result in harm to the freedoms of the American people.
I have noticed that ridiculous inflammatory statements that have no basis in reality are fodder of choice when one's argument is shaky. Remember, insurance is a benefit, not a right. You must educate yourself on your potential employer's plan before accepting employment. They cannot change your coverage out the blue. This is one LEGAL exemption and no others are in play. You would know before you accept employment what your coverage is. Work somewhere else if you do not like it or buy into O-care. You have many options before you.
You, unless you are elevating yourself to god-like status cannot state emphatically that their beliefs are "in error". That is the same thing you are objecting to in their thinking. The insurance package is a benefit, not a right. No employer should be forced to pay for anything other than agreed upon wages. However, out of the goodness of their hearts, Hobby Lobby pays substantially over the current minimum wage and offers good benefits. This is directly contributing to the empowerment of women to make more money and be responsible for themselves. Why have you not offered praise for their pay rates that are way above the national average? That would certainly cover any out of pocket expense for an unprotected night. If you are wondering, I am a woman. You seem to be under the delusion that conservative men are standing in front of pharmacies across the nation with pitchforks driving women away from their beloved day after pills. Last I checked, every woman's right to attain these products was still intact.
Lastly, when you open a business, pour your blood sweat and tears into its success, provide HIGH paying jobs to people in need, you should be able to run it as you see fit. This is America, not a socialist nation. If a woman does not like the benefit package she can (gasp ) choose to work elsewhere or buy into Obamacare. Your inflammatory rhetoric is, as you like to put it, "in error".
Hobby Lobby pays $12 an hour. That is hardly generous, it is certainly not high paying, and these women cannot choose to work somewhere else
Many of the same people who decry 'hypocrisy' are among the same who cry "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."
Uh, yeah we are. Jesus said that. This is why it is particularly irksme when people who claim to be Chritistian do not follow their "Lord's" teachings. One is also supposed to "give unto Cesar that which is Cesar's" Meaning, pay for unencumbered health insurance or pay the fine.
"The longer I was in it, the less I cared, so I really didn't really care what my conscience said. My conscience was totally numb anyway. But what it did do was public relations-wise. You were able, when a reporter or TV crew came, to pull out a packet of information for the patients to read and they received it. So what can anybody say? Publicly it looked good -- in reality it was another tool that was used to force a woman into abortion. It's typical -- I would give them an option and then shoot it down. The only option you didn't shoot down, obviously, was abortion." (Former abortion clinic owner Eric Harrah).
Irrelevant to the discussion. Actually irrelevant to any discussion because this is obviously anti-abortion
"Women's Reproductive 'Rights' in the 21st Century
"They (the women) were never allowed to look at the ultrasound because we knew that if they so much as heard the heartbeat, they wouldn't want to have an abortion." (Dr. Randall, former abortionist)"
Do you have anything to contribute to the current discussion or just a bunch of anti-abortion talking points? Most of us are nurses, not the people you shill. We are above this.
It is 14 an hour for unskilled labor, quite a bit of money for a retail job. That is not something they had to do but did it purely to benefit the employee. And do you know any of these women you are speaking speaking for? I have yet to hear any real Hobby Lobby employee complain, just a bunch of people far removed from the situation. Why on earth can this fictitious woman not find employment elsewhere? Are you currently in talks with a bunch of disgruntled Hobby Lobby employees?

Or the fallacy that sex is a basic human need for only men while women that have sex are slutty slutty *****.
