Hello ;

I want to ask question that my dear friend asked , He want to study medicine after finishing his BSN Degree, Do you think that it's easy to be reached, He told me that some universities formulate the studied courses , for example :

studying to have a Baccalaureate degree of nursing takes about 4 years, and studying to have a Baccalaureate degree of medicine may range form 5 to 7 years, now the question about How it is easy to get Baccalaureate degree of medicine within a short period ?

I know several people who have taken this route. Most worked as nurses during semester breaks and vacations while in medical school. Where are you located? In the US it usually takes 4 years to complete medical school.

People do not get a baccalaureate in medicine. They might take a four year course that is nicknamed "pre-med," which is a lot of science and the prerequisites for medical school. You need very high grades to get into medical school.

people do if they dont live in the US. most other countries have MBBS degrees.

If your primary goal is med school, I am not sure nursing would get you there faster. I am not sure how it works in other countries; however, a BSN degree would not typically have enough higher level sciences required by medical schools in the USA. While I have no problems with nurses going on to med school, I think a degree more specific to the primary goal of med school would be his best bet.

If he is using a nursing background for the sole purpose of going to med school, I think he will be in for a longer road than simply obtaining a degree that focuses of courses required.

Well, of course, it depends on where he is hoping to get into medical school, but in the US, one usually (99%) require receiving a bachelors degree, making sure that they take a year of general chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, a year of biology (fundamentals, not A&P), and a year of physics. Also, most medical schools also require the MCAT. Can a nurse eventually become a doctor? Yes, but usually unless they have included those sciences, they may be required to take those courses after their bachelors, taking maybe two years. It is very competitive, and a 85% would be considered a B (3.0 or there abouts).
