U.S.A. Texas

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

Thanks!

Is everyone ready??? :) I still need to read ch. 5 & 23. I wonder if we need to read it by tomorrow or tuesday.

I have been enjoying my weekend with husband and family... I warned everyone that I wouldnt be around anymore! lol So here we go guys!

I was thinking the same thing!!!! No more life for two straight years but I'm ready for it!!!!! I read chapters 1,5 I just need to read 23 and we will have lecture on Tuesday!!! I hope everybody enjoys their last day of a normal life from now on it's study study work and study!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote down orientation Mon 9am, and class Tue 8am... I think I'm gonna turn up early just in case...

So I know that Monday (the 25th), is supposed to be a class/orientation day, but does anyone know if ALL the students (day and evening) are supposed to show up at 9 am or is that just for the day students. I assume we show up at 5 pm because I never heard anyone say the evening students should show up at a specific time on Monday. I stopped by the nursing office the following day, and Ms Clark told me she also thought we needed to show up at 5. ANYWAY, just checking to see if anyone has heard anything different.

Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

Ok cool. Thanks! Either way there will be breakfast & lunch tomorrow right? So you might want to get there early to eat. :)

For those students that haven't yet obtained or decided against obtaining the videos, I've uploaded the first one to YouTube for your viewing pleasure (or torture?).

This should give you enough guidance for the first skills lab, although none of these tasks is terribly complex.

In that video, the SN checked the patient's ID bracelet, which is good. However, she should have asked the pt to verify their name verbally, since the patient was alert and oriented. While it's not vital when just doing VS, it is a very good habit to get into any time you're dealing with a patient.

While I'm not defending the videos, the student nurse also called the patient by name upon entering the room, and I believe the patient did acknowledge.

In any event, these are the videos that are required for the course; that's the only reason I was sharing.

Yeah, I understand that. I'm not dissing the video. It's not bad at all.

I've found that patients will respond to you no matter what you call them, especially if they're nervous or a bit disoriented or are hard of hearing.

hey guys!

Our teacher showed us this video today in lecture and I thought It was hilarious and wanted to share! Some humor admist all the craziness of nursing school! ;)

Hope everyone is doing well.

For those of you who already have your stethoscopes, will you be taking them to lab tomorrow?? I think I am! I want to get used to mine. Ms. Wooten did say to bring our watch tomorrow as well, I believe, lol correct me if I'm wrong.
