HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

Published

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

Thanks!

Anyone know how the schedule will look for the fall semester either AM or PM? I know we should be taking RNSG 1360 and RNSG 1513. I don't really understand how nursing class schedules work. I am making decisions on whether I should keep my job or not right now. The loans I would need to do this all without working the first year arent seeming so darn bad after all.

Also anyone who is going to the July 14 orientation could you please tell us how it goes and what they talk about?

I talked to the Sec. yesterday and she states that they are still waiting on Pharm. scores. Good luck everyone on test #2 and the Calculations exam.

Thanks,

Adrian

adrianLu,

You can just go to the HCC website and go to current student and find where you can see the Fall 08 shedule, you'll require adobe to see it but just scroll down until you see coleman campus and you can get an idea of the times, I don't know if that's the permanent schedule but it can give you an idea.

Also if you log on to your account using your school ID, like where you went to register for the class, you can also search there for the fall 08 class just type in the RNSG 1360 or 1513.

I saw the shedules already and it's really confusing but one of the teachers told me that basically the "day" time students will be in school monday-thursday from 8-5pm, either on campus or in clinicals, and the clinicals just depend on the times they can get. Fridays seem like we have a day there, TO STUDY!! LOL!

Yeah I did that and the options I see are two days per week AM: 6:30-8a and 6:30-12p or 5-6:30p and 5-11pm for PM. These are the times for the RNSG 1360. The RNSG 1513 is pretty self explanatory.

I'm just confused about what time I will actually be in class.

Did you apply for the day or evening program? Do you know if we have a choice? I signed up for the Day program but I am thinking about the evening program... but not sure if we can do that or not. Either way I think I'll stick to the day.

I honestly can't remember which one I checked but, I heard we may have the option to chose later on (don't quote me on that). I don't know which one I'd prefer at this point. I need a new job and that will determine a lot of things for me.

I'm also struggling with the fin-aid people so, hopefully I am able to attend. I dont think I can afford the tution, books, and supplies all out of pocket but, we shall see.

hey guys,

i have a question about something that's confusing me a bit. under the fall 08 class schedule (pdf on the hccs website) it has the rnsg 1360 and 1513 classes and times listed (the classes that are given during the first semester of nursing). there are two class numbers under rnsg 1360 that have the class time set for 6:30am to 8:00am, while the other seven are listed as 6:30am to 12:30pm. the same applies to the evening classes (one listed as 5:00pm to 6:30pm and the other seven as 5:00pm to 11:00 pm). rnsg 1513 doesn't have this same scheduling difference. i'm assuming that the class is going to run from 6:30am to 12:30pm, but i was wondering if anyone has any insight as to why those few classes are listed like that. also, since these two classes only equal up to 8 semester hours, would we still be considered "full-time students"? i would assume yes, but who knows?

p.s. -- hope everyone is having fun in pharm....because i'm not. :banghead: i barely jerked out a "b" on that first test, so i'm hoping to do a little better on the lecture and math test we have coming up....crunch time sucks

Pharm is not fun so far! lol, its a lot of time... SUPER time consuming! It'll pay off though. Just score high this test coming up and im sure you will get in! I know ms. grant will give out the names to the secretary after the math & lecture test.

Jason, hows it going for you?

How is everyone preparing for the Math test? Just practicing??

Chaos, that's the same thing I'm basically asking about. What times and days will we actually be in class? I asked about the 8 hours when I was signing up for pharm. Shes states that since it is nursing 8 hours is considered full-time and they will write letters for employers, deferring loans, ect.

Our calculations test isnt until the 23, so I guess that means we have to wait that longggg to find something out. I am literally freaking over here even though I am doing well in the class. Last time I called the Sec. stated that if you are enrolled in pharm that means they have everything they need to make your decision but, they need your scores from Pharm. to make the decision and In your letter they will tell you what is needed (transcripts, shots, drug test, background).

Wow this is all coming on so fast I'm nervous and excited... wheewwww. It's about 8 weeks until the first class day. I hope we all get in. :)

Hi,

I am currently applying to HCC spring 09. I have everything completed..pre-reqs, immunization, HESI(next wk). My main concern now is that I took pharm elsewhere but they did not prepare me for the pharm math section. If I buy the "Calculate with Confidence", 4th Ed and study the math section, should this prepare me enough to pass parm math?

how old is your pharm, b/c they won't take if its older than 2 yrs. Then as for the math, I think that if you get this book you should be fine, ch 22 is really the one that you would need to know for the IV calculations, there is 3 formulas that they teach you in the class so that you can calculate, and I'm sure the secretary can give you those notes.

But math is math, if you're good with Math you'll do fine. :)

took pharm fall 06, so i may just be making the cutoff, thanks for telling me that though, they didn't mention the 2-yr cutoff at the info session. thank you so much for the math info, i'll be in town this weekend so i can stop by their office. thanks again pinkynbd!

I'm working hard to ace the second exam. I did OK in the first one with an 88 (ugh!! I made some unbelievably stupid mistakes) but I'm only allowing myself 2 wrong answers in the next one. I really don't see any reason why we can't get 100s in the math exam.

The average for the class is 75, and I expect that will drop dramatically at the next test. The last test was probably the easiest because of the pharm basics questions.

One question on the math exam. Is it ok to show the formula and then just set up a ratio/proportion for the working? Or do you have to show all the working underneath the ratio/proportion too?

Good luck!!
