Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL
Thanks!
From what I understand, the students will be notified by mail. That letter is supposed to contain any further instructions/requirements that need to be completed before you can officially be admitted to the course (i.e. - cpr, immunizations, or whatever). The only people that I know of that have received letters are those that finished their pharmacology in the spring semester. I've heard (from several sources) that the students enrolled in pharmacology this summer will be receiving their letters in early August if they have been accepted.
As I understand it, after the math exam and second exam, those that are making the grade can expect a preliminary letter advising that they're accepted for the Fall, provided they pass the remainder of pharm. I seem to recall Ms Grant saying that this letter would be out shortly after the math exam.
I guess she'll wait until the Saturday group take their math exam/exam 2 this week....
Soooooo, I'm going to have to take that math test again. I ended up scoring 85 on it. Here's the part that keeps kicking me in the juevos....I'm positive that I mispelled on the of the abbreviations (worth 3 points I think) and I didn't round once or twice like I was supposed to....which would have given me a 90 or above. I think the other points I missed was because I didn't show sufficient work. SUCKS TO BE ME, but at least we get another chance at it....
It will be ok CHaos. At least you know your material and do have a second chance. 85 is so close and I hate when that happens but, you're almost there. I'm taking it this Wednesday and I'm terrified even though I'm good in math. I plan on showing every single step even if I know how to do it in my head or a short cut. That's how we had to do it in my chem class back in the day.
Oh yeah they have also changed the schedule of classes to a less confusion picture. I dont know if they have changed the PDF version but, courses listed on the enrollment services website are different.
Goodluck everyone!
Hey everyone! I had both my lecture and math test today... I thought I did horrible on my math but i did get a 96.something :) I am soo happy and relieved. One more test and we are done!!
Chaos, don't worry. Atleast you know what to expect and what exactly to focus on. Just do your best I am sure you will do fine the next time around.
I hear that it gets harder and harder. This class is literally kicking my A$$!!!! Anyway, good luck to all and the countdown is really on now!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adrian: I was so nervous in the test that I actually got the shakes. You seriously have nothing to worry about. My only downfall (I got 96) was not rounding my IV calcs to a full mL, something I knew I got wrong the second I handed it over at the end!!
I noticed in the handbook that the uniform is a white shirt and slacks. And there I was looking forward to shopping for scrubs...
I already have a degree so I'm not eligible for any aid. I'm also an international student... so I don't even get to pay in-state tuition!! D:
Jason, I am in the sameboat but, I do get in district tuition.Do you plan on working during the program? I am looking at a loan from Chase amd the HELP loan from the state. HCC is saying I cant get Stafford loans.
I also heard they are wearing white tops and black pants. My body isnt made or all white or snaps in the front. I will look like a half gallon of milk, blah.

Any ideas how the preliminary acceptance might work? Is it likely to be a letter in the mail? Anyone had any news so far?
Pinky, that's awesome, congratulations!!
