Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL
Thanks!
No offense, but I'd rather hear from people who are attending the program rather than someone who is just judging from the outside. It's not helpful to those of us who might decide to enter the program if all we hear comes from the same person who had the one problem and repeatedly reminds us. Just my:twocents:
I agree with you... not to be rude. LOL, i think its all about attitudes too. I am setting the mood if I go in there with a negative outlook...negative thinking = negative everything. I haven't had an issue.. smooth sailing for me so far. Even if I did have an incident... who cares move on. I do what I have to do! :)

Thanks for your support, I am happy to hear that you're doing so well. I hope you continue to succeed. Please let us know periodically how you like it (or don't like it) I am subscribing to this thread because I'd like to know what everyone thinks. I wish there were more HCC students posting on the RN program.
understood and i will keep the rest of my 2 cents out. I just wanted to give those looking into HCC a view of what i have seen come out of there and th examples i have seen of the instructors. i would have wanted this headsup before i even gave them money for all my academic classes, my cna class, my phlebotomy class, and my ekg class, had i known before hand i wouldnt have made the investment with them. PS i already work in 2 diferent ERs and i have seen HCCs 48 day wonders fall flat on their face no matter how much we help them. i would expect more from a program and expect them not to pass people without the skills to survive. yes i am upset with them. yes i think there program is currently sub par and yes i blame it on the current leadership. But no i guess i wont post hear anymore. good luck to all of you as the new nurses will be the lifeblood as the older ones quit. i just expect more for my money.
guys, I am trying to get into the nursing program here.. I went to orientation about 2 years ago.. do they require you to take the orientation again, or is it good still? Is thee any chance at all to get into class for Aug at this point? I cant really get straight answers from anyone, so I thought I could ask here.
Cutienurse2be: I don't think you can get in for August, but there's no reason you can't for Spring. The steps you need to take are:
1. info session (I'd go again, things might have changed)
2. HESI exam
3. Pharmacology
You could take Pharm in the Fall, and enter the program in the Spring.
Good luck to you!

I will! :) Our first exam is next week and I'm eager to get it over with. I am very excited about this class. Just have to keep moving forward and study!

It would be wonderful to know how you are doing in your program (at cy-fair?) because then we could compare. I know how it is when you encounter strange people with bad attitudes but I'm hoping that things will improve at HCC. Best of luck with your program.

Actually you do need to go to their session b/c they hand you a business card with the date of the session you must show the Sec. before you want to apply to the program and this Business card must be no more than a year old.
Plus I heard (and saw some of the people when they leave the sessions) that now the NET test will be required, but I don't know exactly. Go to their session and take your transcripts (the sciences can't be more than 5 years old) so that right there if you're ok you can apply and test for the HESI.
Good Luck!
Jason,Its true that Ms. Grant is the only teacher for our saturday class. Shes great.
I've heard horrible things about Ms. Reyes. IS that really all true? I hear shes notorious for putting stuff in her tests thats irrelevant as well. GOSH. thats sucks!
Ms. Grant said that the only way to do well on the weekly quizzes is to actually read. BC alot of that stuff is VERY random and everyone gets different questions.
Just a little hint for the people that have Mrs. Reyes she does not go over all the material that she puts in her test questions I had her for a couple of lectures and she does teach all over the place. It's best to just thoroughly read all of the chapters and make your own notes and pay close attention to the patient teaching boxes!!! She will ask questions over material that was not covered in lecture or notes so just read and you should be okay!!!
Good Luck everyone I hope to see you in the fall!!
I cringe when i see graduated HCC students who cant start IVs, try to catherize the lady parts and dont see a problem with it. I have seen more and more issues working with HCC rns. now that could be they were poor students. but after reading about all the issues and seeing hc instructors aandon students on my unit im not too impressed. also the secretary and chair are jokes. misinformamation and outright laziness apeared to run rampant in my short stint with them. i guess it goes back to the saying the evil you know all about appears more evil than the one you dont. just a thought... ps it sounds better in spanish.
I also work at a ER and I have been told by many of the nurses there that they didn't start IV's until they graduated. Many of them tell me that the nursing program is mainly theory and they are not HCC graduates they are TWU and UT graduates!!
