HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! :bugeyes: The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

The books we are using this semester are Pharmacology and the Nursing Process (5th edition) and Calculate with Confidence (4th edition). I have the 4th edition of both so, far no problems.

Is it true that the Sat class is only taken by Ms Grant? If so... all you guys in the Saturday class are so lucky to have Ms Grant for all your lectures! You'll never have to deal with Reyes this semester! Her lectures are all over the place. There's a bit of controversy already, with a few quiz questions on her lecture having nothing to do with any material - not from the book, from anything she said, or anything in her notes....

guys, I am trying to get into the nursing program here.. I went to orientation about 2 years ago.. do they require you to take the orientation again, or is it good still? Is thee any chance at all to get into class for Aug at this point? I cant really get straight answers from anyone, so I thought I could ask here.

Its true that Ms. Grant is the only teacher for our saturday class. Shes great.

I've heard horrible things about Ms. Reyes. IS that really all true? I hear shes notorious for putting stuff in her tests thats irrelevant as well. GOSH. thats sucks!

Ms. Grant said that the only way to do well on the weekly quizzes is to actually read. BC alot of that stuff is VERY random and everyone gets different questions.

run dont walk ... apply somewhere else their nclex percentage is down and their professors are getting worse and worse... or get used to it...

Not true so everyone out there if you are interested in HCC ADN check the facts for yourselves at this website I have posted below in 2007 HCC had a 95% pass rate which is higher than Montgomery and Cyfair their pass rates are not low they are actually pretty good!!!!! Some people just have it out for HCC!!! Also not all of the teachers are bad Reyes is kind of out there but some of the others are pretty good!!!! So if you want to know about the pass rates check it out!!!

I don't think that a problem with one professor demonstrates that the faculty is getting 'worse and worse'. I'm extremely satisfied with the other professors I've had for Pharm and I'm looking forward to working with them in the program.

The NCLEX results speak for themselves. The only time I'm concerning myself with NCLEX results is when I'm getting my own results!! :D

Ms Grant really is great, I just had her yesterday for Math and she was awesome. I'm totally at ease with everything she has taught so far, because she's so systematic and organised. I'm thinking about sitting in on the Sat. lectures just to get more exposure to some of the material.

How are you finding everything so far? A lot of reading - but it's all really interesting stuff.

I cringe when i see graduated HCC students who cant start IVs, try to catherize the lady parts and dont see a problem with it. I have seen more and more issues working with HCC rns. now that could be they were poor students. but after reading about all the issues and seeing hc instructors aandon students on my unit im not too impressed. also the secretary and chair are jokes. misinformamation and outright laziness apeared to run rampant in my short stint with them. i guess it goes back to the saying the evil you know all about appears more evil than the one you dont. just a thought... ps it sounds better in spanish.

Its soo much reading, but im trying! I cant read every single thing but I am trying to read as much as I can. Its just almost impossible since I work and everything else I have going on. Its very interesting and I do like it so far. Can't wait for the first test. I am so ready to get it over with.
