HCAs personality test

Nurses Career Support

I'm in Nevada and took HCA's mandatory supplemental "survey." I was honest about being over 40, and took a while to think about the questions.

I googled "pre employment survey" and found out too late you are timed. If you don't go really fast- if you think about the answer it will flag you. ??

I obviously failed- they sent me the rejection email apprx 12 hours later.

Does anyone have any experience in how to answer these questions?

I tried using the search box here on this website and it's not working ?? that's why I'm making a new post.

It might. I don't have a huge burning interest to work for HCA, though. I just kind of find it amusing/annoying.

yeah, it would not be my first thought for employment either, but if it is the only....

I have a decent background in organizational development - very familiar with psych testing and psychometrics. Based on that, I'm am really ambivalent about these types of 'charm school' screens being used to automatically filter out certain personality types. Worst case scenario? Entire hospitals staffed by Stepford Nurses... all with exactly the same personality. However, because I DO actually have some advanced knowledge of the process, I am comforted by the fact that the vast majority of people choose to lie on these surveys; altering their answers to reflect what they believe is the 'correct' response. In fact, the questions that generate the most false answers are those concerned with honesty...... yeah, I know.

I don't fault any organization for trying to prevent evildoers from being hired. But the best way to do that is by ensuring that employment interviewers are adequately trained. Skilled managers have a good understanding of their staffs underlying personality characteristics.... they know that diverse teams produce the best outcomes. Maybe you don't need a whole shift composed of highly assertive nurses who love to face new challenges, but you do need some of them to ensure an effective response when everything goes South and your "I love stability and routine" nurses are paralyzed with indecision.

If I could wave my magic wand & impart some information to the folks who are mandating these screens..... it would be this. "Things are tough in healthcare today and it's not going to get any easier. The WORST thing you can do is deliberately try to foster group-think by eliminating staff diversity. There's no such thing as the perfect nurse, but put us all together, and you have a much better chance of growth and creativity as our different skills and talents complement one another"

Wherever you're working, they are lucky to have you. Thank you for posting this.

Hi there,

The survey assessment test for HCA positions are not a pass or fail type of thing. It is simply used a a guide when hiring managers decide to move to interview. If you received a rejection notice, there most likely are other factors that we taking into consideration such as, whether position was still needed, internal fill, specific unit requirements that needed to be met, interview process came to a close by the time you applied. As you see there could be many reasons, however the assessment was not one. Hope this helps! :)

thank you, oh steppfordness.

if its any consolation, HCA uses meditech as far as i know...which is to the worst EMR in existene. I'm more of a EPIC guy myself :)

been thinking long and hard lately and if not for the fact of being a desperate new grad, meditech would be a deal breaker for me
