what happens if you break the HCA starRN contract? i hear you’re not allowed to work for any other HCA facility ever again. is this true? what if you pay off the money in full? has anybody ever broken the contract then went off to work for HCA again in the future ? what if you leave as a nurse but then come back to work as a social worker or pharmacist or something, would the blacklist still apply to you even if ur not returning as an RN again? also does breaking a contract look bad to other employers?

Just wanted to know about any feedback regarding the periop program, if it was any better than the new grad program. Yes these posts are making me second guess my decision to interview.. not sure how to get out of it though..

"Dear HCA HR:

99.9% of nurses polled say you suck more than anchovies on ice cream and I'd rather avoid ruining my love of ice cream. Please cancel my scheduled interview. Thank you for your time and have a nice day. ?"

I don't think it'd *hurt* to interview with them. If anything, it'd be good interview experience. I will say though, please be very cautious about accepting a job with them. Look for any red flags during the interview. Ask about their retention rates and if you'd be receiving a sign on bonus/relocation bonus. I broke my contract with them ~2.5 months ago and they've asked me to pay back $8k for "training." Just make sure you do your research on them, they're notorious for doing shady things. I wish someone had told me what I know now because I never would've signed with them...

Thank you for this.. I appreciate it. I have been a nurse for 7 years. my goal has always been to get into a periop program. But yes, I do feel a bit uneasy going into this interview after hearing the negativity about the company. I am interviewing at a hospital in NH. I may probably still go, but my enthusiasm has dwindled. I do not want to get stuck in a program I regret. Do they tell u upfront about signing on for a two year committment?

original poster here: I have since interviewed with several HCA recruiters and all have offered me jobs and none of them mentioned me being blacklisted after quitting so either corona has forced them to ease up on their restrictions or it was all a myth to begin with. so do what you want with that information.

Thank you for the info. I had emailed the recruiter asking if the was a 2 yr committment to the facility for the periop training program and he stated he was not aware of this... I am still going to ask Wed when I meet with them.

Or they might not freely disclose their vindictive practices--if they happen to be doing them, of course.

It was good of you to update the post and if you end up working for them and are able to update again in the future that would probably help a lot of people. ??

Did you ever find out about this?

seems like it’s a myth or they changed their policy, I got offered jobs at several HCA facilities since posting the thread.

well I will update on wed after I meet with them. I will scope it out and see how I feel. I do know that I would not work on a med surg floor there bc the ratios are 6 to 1 nurse..which I think is too much. But I feel the OR environment is different. just my thought tho..

So I broke my 2-year contract and left HCA but no one from HR or Healthtrust has contacted me about the contract and the money. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it took for them to reach out or what your experience was like after leaving HCA. Also if they do not reach out, am I obliged to contact them ?? Thanks in advance!

How long ago did you leave? It took them about a month and a half to contact me asking me to repay. It was a piece of mail from the "Benefits Recovery Group," which is a collections agency that I guess HCA is in cahoots with. I wouldn't contact them if you don't hear from them, otherwise that just draws attention!
