Ok a little about me. I am 32 and yes a male, married with two lovely girls. Anyway I went to nursing school back in 97 and dropped out (was 23 and didnt know better) well retaking my pre reqs now and find it impossible to memorize the stuff for A&P 1 have lab tests and the lecture teacher says read Chpt. 8-10 well **** that is like 75 pages or more, I can read three and cant remember or understand what I have read. Anyone have this prob.?

Yes, I find it best to make either an outline of the chapter, to focus more on what's really important, or make flash cards when it comes to memorization. Hope my suggestions help.

I have the same problem. Did your book come with a CDrom and a link to the puplishers website. I have found those helpful as they have interactive learing quides and pratice quizes for each chapter. I also have recorded my instructers lectures and highled the chapter as the information matches up with his lectures.

dont sweat it, i droped out lpn program in 2001....going back for rn, failed microbiology which was my last pre-req......i'm retaking it this summer, dont get discouraged man........anything of value takes time, take it slow and dont try to do everything at once......pace yourself and you'll do fine

Just read it. More than you realize will come back when you see a multiple choice question with the terms you just saw in it. Skim it the first time then sit down and try to read it more closely. If you only have time to skim it then skim it. Just do the reading.

Hi!

I take notes while I am reading or I even use my tape recorder and tape myself saying important things while I read--then I listen back while I am reading my class notes and add the stuff. I make note cards/post its sometimes as I read and stick them in the book where I found the info...then go back and look at them later. I also do the study guides at the end of the chapter. It IS a lot of work...but wait til you get into nursing classes--the reading is a killer. Anatomy flash cards got me through A&P--they saved me. Best of luck!

hey, i am 42 , a nurse from germany, they didn't accept my degree over her when i first came to US, so now after my kids are almost grown i am starting all over again after 15 years. I know it's hard to study at our age,lol:lol2: , but don't give up. our A&P book had a very good website ,where you could print lecture outlines, which summ the chapter up very good, also there are lots of quizzes and things you can practise on. Check on that, and by the way, you won't get around reading. Actuall Nursingschool will be a more of it :uhoh21: . You Can DO It? Obviously this is your dream so give it your best effort, you will be surprised.

Read it, you'l member more than you think! Also, outlines are super. :)

A & P is the hardest to get through!! :deadhorse :barf01: :barf01:

Hate it! I'm in 2nd semester now. You have to make an outline and get to the library in one of those booths, and just learn what u need to pass! I'm an A student, with Cs in A&P...you can do it!

I can empathize, I'm also a parent to two kids and taking pre-reqs. I've found it's definitely challenging at times.

Like was said above, outlines are your friends. Also, try writing the questions/answers down. In my research, I've found that when we take something we're seeing/reading and push that information through the eyes and out the fingers, it tends to stick a little more.

Keep us posted on how you're doing - hopefully we can help :)

It's tough bud, but keep your head up! I'm a 33yr old male and just finished a semester of A&PII, Chem, Nutrition, and Healthcare Statistics.. BY FAR my hardest semester EVER in college and I already have a BS in business management. The A&P and Chem classes were a killer duo.

Do you get a study guide of what are the most important topics? I always try that. Re-write your notes, that helps me remember, and quiz yourself either make up your own, or download them from your book's website. When I make up my own quizzes it works great. If you can think of questions, then you know the answers.

Good luck, don't give up.

I have found that the best strategy is association. You have to take what you learn and attach a real world meaning to it. I had a teacher who did this and it made it sooooo much easier. If you have to take it again, don't sweat it, a lot of people have to do this!
