  1. :yeahthat: Good attitude. Keep up the great work and ignore the med tech. I'm sure he/she is just very proud of passing the course. It is a bad situation though when someone thinks they are above learning something everyday. K
  2. I would have to take out loans as well. Did Vandy's fin aid dept help you get all of it ready? I've been reading about the "alternative" loans, other than the 10,500-18,500 available through stafford but I still have trouble figuring it all out. I think finances have been my biggest struggle through school. How bad is that??? A BS in Business and can't get financial aid figured out. lol K
  3. I think working as a PCA will make me a better nurse someday. I can guarantee I won't be one of those nurses that chase down someone to remove a bedpan. As far as technical jobs as a PCA I do the following: start and d/c foleys, d/c IVs, simple sterile dressings, I/Os, BS's, then the usual bed/bath/peri. On our unit CVCC (cardiovascular care unit), the nurse to patient ratio is about 1:5 and the PCAs are about 1:9. Thanks to all you good nurses out there! K
  4. ROFL!! Only in the male nurse forum. Funny. I have a BS in Business Management and start my accelerated BSN program next month. I might go that route too after a while, but for now I'm more interested in patient care. I'm looking into FNP, PA, or CRNA.. I guess I'll figure it out after I get some experience. K
  5. Yeah, not a PhD.. a clinical doctorate. Funny though, I don't think they've even decided on a name for it yet. Doctor of Nursing Practice, Clinical Nurse Doctorate?? WHAT? lol I personally don't have the same reservations as some. I think it could be a good thing for NPs to be educated at a doctorate level. Anyways.. a topic for a different thread. K
  6. I personally would LOVE to go to the vandy MSN bridge program. How the HECK do you come up with $30k/year to attend. If I could figure that out, I'd be applying instead of typing this. K
  7. My hospital accepts new RNs directly into ICU, but most of the RNs I've talked to that did this said they were scared @#$%less. I'm hoping I'll get lucky and have some great experienced ICU nurses to mentor me. :-) K
  8. I've been ask to leave the room as well. It did feel like crap, but oh well. Don't be so stressed.. it's just 4 days. K
  9. At my hospital all PCA's have to wear dark teal. Nurses are required to wear white pants but can wear any top they want. The dietary, secretaries, etc. wear dk blue only. I think it works pretty well. We also have the dry-erase boards in the room where we keep the date and who the nurse and PCAs are. We have a couple of girls that wear solid white sometimes. They look so good! But hats, no way. K
  10. Just got my book.. it's Ingraham. Hmm. Am I the only one with this book? K
  11. Does anyone know of information on loans to cover the cost of living? I can get a normal loan for enough to cover tuition, books, etc + a few thousand more, but I really need a loan that will help with my living expenses since my BSN program's schedule almost doesn't allow for work. I've seen these types of loans for medical school and even crna, but do they have them for undergrad nurses? Any ideas? K
  12. Financial aid will pay for all the classes as long as you're making the required progress toward your degree. K
  13. I always use http://www.discovernursing.com to find nursing programs. Check it out. K
  14. I think it's cool that there's a "male nurse" section on this board. We have a lot of issues that arise specifically because we're such a minority in the field. It's nice to have a place to discuss those topics. K
  15. whew! Just got my grades. Everything's good... I was a little worried about Chem. Microbiology is officially my last pre-req to pass then nursing school in July! K
