Have my 1st interview...practice questions??

Published

Specializes in OB.

I have my first interview next Tuesday and was wondering if anyone has some practice questions for me?

Thanks

Carrie :-)

Congrats on your first interview. :) What position are you interviewing for? These are some questions that have turned up in many of my interviews:

Why do you want to work at X hospital?

Why do you want to do X specialty?

What are your strengths?

What are your weaknesses?

How do you handle conflicts with others?

Ask about how to persue personal and professional growth. What are avenues for advancement? What is the one thing that makes this facility a great place to work?

I had an interview just today. I had read another thread on this topic and it suggested to ask the manager what was the most difficult area for her in managing the unit. I did ask just that when the time came for me to ask questions! I could tell that she had never been asked that before and seemed kind of stumped and had to think of an answer. I also knew it would reveal what this unit was like to work on. Talking about turning the table on the interview :rotfl: Luckily, she answered that staffing was the worst problem instead of personality problems between the coworkers!

Try this at question time, it is sort of entertaining to see the interviewer squirm for an answer. BTW, she offered me the job on the spot!

Here are some: What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

What is your nursing philosophy?

What are your strengths? Weaknesses?

Why should we hire you for this position?

Why do you want this job?

Good luck!!! :)

FYI, it's illegal to ask women this question - could be fishing for whether you're going to want babies (and therefore maternity leave) at least in California, maybe nationwide

Tell me about a time when you were helpful in implementing change in your unit.

What do you consider your best nursing qualities?

Tell me about a time when you were a team player?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

What do you hope to gain from working here?

Good luck,

Rachel

I'm in Texas and I have been asked that question at each interview. I answer it according to my career goals.
