I have noticed in the past two days that people are posting threads that are directly angry at the Filipino nurses..simply they are getting the jobs from us!
Well, I have seen nurses coming from Canada, U.K., Mexico and Eastern Europe as well; and it seems to me most of you don't want to mention this. Is that mean nurses from Canada, and U.K. are treated differently?
I could like to point out the Filipino nurses just like many others; they are educated, having strong sense of being team players and working hard just like many of us...Most of all, they are very committed and their overturn rate is relatively low. When it comes to the overturn rate, the management will consider it as a way of saving money! I have seen many U.S. educated nurses will quit their jobs or they just disappeared somewhere... Do I want to work with nurses like that...Of course, I don't! I have been assigned to four patients in the Med/Surg ICU inasmuch as some nurses just called in sick! They are so irresponsible! They jeopardize the patient's lives and my license! It is a mystery for them to become nurses in the first place.
When you look back, this country is indeed built on racism! Look at the African Americans...and I have just proved my point! Has anyone of us recalled there was a vice president who could not even spell the word "potato?" Unfortunately, history always repeats itself and if you have the right skin color, it does not matter whether you can spell some simple words or not....and you will get the job!
At the end, I would rather work with people who are very committed to their work and have the disciplines to go to work when they are supposed to go to work!
If her nationality didn't matter you wouldn't label her as a Filapino Nurse...by labeling her, you actually are behaving rather culturally prejudiced as well. You are associating her good qualities with her nationality which may not be the case. She just may be a super-duper nurse no matter where she was born.
The color of her skin doesn't matter to me but it seems rather important to you.
I have been to a website for Filipino nurses. It didn't take me long to figure out that I didn't need to be there. The comments I read were nowhere near as nonracist as what I've read here over the past two days. The person who gets offended by the opinions expressed here can report the post or choose to go elsewhere, just like I did when I decided I would never visit that Filipino website again. Problem solved.
Racism is against a race. Has anyone been against Filapino nurses because of the color of their skin? No...What people are noting is the nationality so that correct term is prejudice and the specific prejudice is being exhibited is nationalist.
I really wish people could point out concerns and fears without being labled with such terms. Noting a difference in a culture is being culturally aware, demeaning someone for their culture is completely different.
When we have Canadian and British nurses coming to America to work, and people intentionally not to point it out...but they have no problem to bring out the Filipino nurses; if this has nothing to do with racism, can you explain to me what is in their minds then...
Are you aware of the fact that there is a racism in America? The current situation is extreme complicated! I do agree not to import anymore foreign nurses; but not only Filipino..nurses from U.K. and Canada should not be allow at this time and you have failed to mention it even I mentioned in my thread! I guess skin color has something to do with it! Am I right or wrong?
Part of the racism comes from people who constantly and falsely claim racism and fail to realize their faults and failures are unrelated to their skin color.
I am against importation of labor no matter what the source until the current overhyped economic crisis is over.

Yeah..You were offended by my thread...Can you not visit my thread? "Problem solved" as you just mentioned...lol!
The health care system in America is such a mess! We have spent trillion of dollars on the systems and yet million Americans do not even have the coverage! Are you going to blame the problems on the foreign nurses as well!
If all Americans have the health coverages, there will be more patients in the hospitals; consequently more vacancies for the new nurses!

I agree but again you have failed to explain the reason why we bring out the Filipino nurses...but not the white Canadian and the nurses from U.K.! Can you answer the question? This is really the second time to ask you this type of question...
I think you want a reason to be angry.
I'm sorry a majority of people in the Phillipines are not white so you can't be angry at them.
I'm sorry you don't realize that Canada and the UK have other races within their countries as well so they may export nonwhite nurses.
I'm sorry that people note that the Phillipines used to have a booming trade in iexorting nurses which made them a more visible target for anger.
I'm sorry you see racism where it does not necessarily exist.
I'm sorry you had a bad day at work in America and associate that with American nurses.
Does that make it better?

What!?!?!?!
I do believe this is racist!!!
How dare you generalize the entire Filipino race!!! Saying they are all a certain way. You can't pigeonhole an entire group of people! You can't make assumptions about an entire race (even if Filipino isn't a race).
I'm offended...
Yeah, I couldn't resist...

Oh, Stanley, you're so racist!

All the nurses coming from UK and Canada I have been working with are whites! Perhaps I will have a chance to work with the non-whites in the future! I have been working with nurses from Africa as well, but I think Filipino nurses are out numbered others! Now, if you had the power to stop the Filipino nurses from coming aboard; then I am just wondering who would be the next target! The Filipino nurses have been coming to this country for a while, and only when Wall Street was going down hill and many lost health insurance then we start to blame the problem on others! Interesting...
