Our book lists seizure under hypoglycemia but it does not say that in Saunders (which I really trust) and we did not learn that in school.
So I was just wondering if anyone had any real world experience with someone having a seizure due to hypoglycemia.
what did you learn in school about hypoglycemia?
Yep, been there. my ex-husband is a childhood diabetic and was an alcoholic. years ago, sitting with on of the kids in a highchair and he on the couch.... he went flying off the couch, turned gray and went into a seizure. I wasn't a nurse then, and in my shock called my mother-in-law and screamed to help me. She in turn called the family doctor who left hte clinic and drove right to our house and popped candy in his mouth.... seizure done.
due to other issues, we divorced. since then, he had multiple toes removed from a foot, and then a BKA, a kidney and pancreas transplant (which wore out after 10 yrs), has been on full dialysis for 9 yrs, was in ICU for 4 months abot a yr and a half ago, then a nursing home for several months. He went back into ICU about a month ago and is not doing well. He looks 80+ and is only 49.
Lesson? take care of yourself, you only get the one body.
I have a student in my school who is very brittle. She's only in kindergarten, so she's not very knowledgeable just yet. To complicate matters, she's only been speaking English for about 9 months. This girl can come in at 419 at 8:15 and be 38 by 1:30. I have worked and worked with her and her mom, and even called the doctor myself, trying to get this poor girl regulated. This child walks up to the clinic, casually says "My feet feel wiggly" and boom! Shes 40. I have her drink her juice and sit with me for 15-20min. All the while she's coloring and chattering.
After 15 minutes she says "I feel better." I just bet she does...
