Last time someone came in was two hrs ago and that was a tech. And the nurse was rude. About to lose my patience! But I will not!!!!!!!
Cut the "rude" nurse some slack. S/he has probably been dealing with seven varieties of ******** all day long.I have literally walked out of a resuscitation where the patient didn't make it, gone across the hall to check on my other patient, only to be greeted by a complaint about the wait, while someone else just lost a father/husband/brother (and I haven't even had time to process my own feelings about it, because you don't get to do that in the ED; you just keep going). Seriously. If the doctors and nurses aren't hovering over your loved one, then they are not the sickest person there, and you should be thankful. The sickest people there are actively dying. That's why it's called the "Emergency" Department.
Having said that, I hope your loved one will be okay.
I only got irritated because this comment implied i dont know what an emergency room is for. And that i dont know why i had to wait. Like a lot of the rest of the comments that have since been posted, Like i am an idiot. And for all you nursey people out there posting YOUR rude comments right back, Thank for implying that you too know something that i dont. I may not have the actual experience of being in a situation as a nurse but i am not a complete fool. i said it already, I'll say it again. I know why we weren't a priority, and i did cut the rude nurse some slack...... In fact i kept my mouth shut. And all of are you so quick to jump my butt. Geez i often wonder how many old cranky nurses just sit on here and prowl waiting for their next victim .....
And to answer someone else's question about why my mom even went there like because she shouldn't have because she has chronic pain, she went because the pain was different that morning, it was CHEST PAIN. But i guess she should have waited and made an appt with her family doc......what do i know.....
Depends.. is anything more than a few years old and cranky or does just cranky automatically make you old? Does old mean age or experience? Do you have to be a nurse to qualify for the old and cranky crowd? I don't know too many old cranky people that have the time or effort to wait around for mouthy kids to start up, they prob have their own oldness and crankiness to deal with. How old are you? You seem pretty cranky. Maybe you are old and cranky too. You seem to like to jump on people with rude comments. Perhaps you are, in fact, old and cranky even if you are not a nurse yet. Sorry to not kiss your butt to help you ease the cranky, but I am (apparently) old and cranky too.
edited to add: I would never go to an "American Idol" website and insult American Idol fans and expect to get love back. Maybe going to nursing website to complain about nurses wasn't the best idea you've had.

I don't know, you tell me what an old cranky nurse is since it seems like you want to argue too. My point is it seems like more times than not, weather old or not cranky or not there seem to be a select few that jump at the chance to pick a fight or act better than the next person. And i wasnt complaining lol i was bored. So excuse me.

As I am an emergency nurse and have been for years ... yes, I know things that you don't. Period. It's not an insult, just fact. You probably have some interest, hobby or knowledge of something else I don't know squat about.

If you express yourself in a public forum it will generate a response. That connectivity is the point of the internet, no? If you simply wish to express yourself without opening up discussion, there are various means of journaling to accomplish that. Would you have made the same comments in person in a room full of ER nurses? Because that's what you just did, electronically.

I'm sorry that you interpreted my post as a negative commentary on your intelligence. It was not meant to be that, but rather, a heartfelt illustration of what it is like on the other side. It was meant as an opportunity for you to practice some empathy, an essential skill in nursing practice.
ED nurses have a reputation for being no-nonsense, maybe some call it "rude" or "cranky". There is a reason for that. Until you have walked in those shoes, it can be hard to understand.
These "old cranky" nurses who have replied to you? Most of them are ED nurses. The fact that you continue to assume the role of victim in the conversation that YOU started on a NURSING forum is, indeed, a marker of foolishness.
And i wasnt complaining lol i was bored. So excuse me.
Excuse me for feeling the need to comment, but I've been sitting back reading the thread, but I feel this needs to be addressed. I reread you original post. Nowhere in it did you say you were bored and you never implied that was the only reason you were posting. You commented the nurse was rude (seems like a complaint to me). You then finished by saying you were "about to lose" your "patience."
It just doesn't seem like some random post by someone who is bored. Considering the wording and where it was posted (Emergency Nursing) it seems like you had a specific audience in mind and you were trying to get a rise out of them. Well, you did. If that was your point, then fine, good for you. Just don't try and play all innocent about your motives, because, well, they weren't.

Obviously you know things i don't, but i don't need to be a nurse to know I'm not priority and that ed Nurses can be stressed, that's whats so frustrating about this, every one is getting so upset like i was ****** off at waiting and i wasn't, like i yelled at the nurse..i didn't. I shrugged it off.

Yes i would because i wasn't bad mouthing anyone, just chatting. I'm done. I obviously can't when, there is no point in arguing anymore ......

I can assume why you would see it that way....
the way it sounded in my head when I typed it and they way you read it are totally different, but I guess that is what can happen in reading typed text.

No victim or fool here ma'am. I am just trying to explain the misconception that everyone seems to think that I was mad and I wasn't, but obviously it doesn't matter. In fact I was happy the whole time I was there.
by the way isn't the way I missinterrupted your text the same thing as everyone misinterrupting mine?

Sitting for hours in the ER is frustrating. Everyone seems to be moving so slowly...from the waiting room, everyone seems to be so calm. If I'm a wreck, why isn't the entire STAFF a wreck!!!! Sheesh!
I had the worst scare of my life in March. My ten month had a complex febrile seizure that caused his lung to collapse. Let me tell you, I'd rather wait for 6 hours in the waiting room with a broken arm than be rushed to the back immediately with my baby on a stretcher. And I couldn't tell you if the ED nurses that took care of him were as kind as Mother Theresa or as mean as Cruella DeVille.
I just wanted them to save my baby. Hell, I would've gladly let them all spit in my face in exchange for exceptional care for my son. Fortunately, that wasn't necessary, and even more fortunately, it did end up just being a febrile seizure.
I gained a new respect for ED and PICU nurses during that week. I met some absolute rock stars!
