Has anyone here wore a dress as a uniform?

I know..you are probably thinking, "Why in the world..."

I was just curious...this isn't for religious reasons. I am just having a very, very hard time finding pants to fit, they make me look like I weigh 50 lbs more than I do...and the other day I just tried on a style of nursing dress (just to see), because we have to get one eventually for pinning anyway.

I am having trouble finding pants is because we can't wear drawstring (which I hate anyway), and all of the flat-front pants come in low-rise...which unless someone wants to stare at half my butt, I can't wear b/c I have an extremely long torso.

I just found it to be comfortable...however, I also didn't have white hose on with it either. It was a princess cut, so the skirt was wider, so movement was good. I was in the dressing room trying to squat down, etc....trying to see how the movement worked, etc.

I was curious of anyone who does wear a dress as a uniform, pros, cons, etc.

I'm alot older than my classmates...I also don't want to look like an idiot.

While going through school I remember seeing a nurse during my pediatrics rotation wearing a big white dress. My friends and I thought it was so cute. She was an older nurse and the dress was so long it reached her ankles. All she needed was a little white cap and she could have posed for a historical nursing fashion catalog.

Cherokee makes a 'boxer' style scrub pant that has a wider waist band and a very comfortable fit; they're sized up to 5XL, petite, average and tall. Very well made and last forever...

You can get them at allheart at a pretty reasonable price (currently on sale!)

I love the Cherokee uniforms that we have for our clinical uniforms so much I ordered 3 sets in my work uniform colors. God Bless Liz Claiborne!

try cherokee workwear. I don't wear the lowcut clothes either, and the workwear have a little extra room in the tummy and a little higher waist. I love them.

Oh, I wore a dress when I was in nursing school 'the first time' back in the late 80's/early 90's. Horrible and hard to move in. Glad when I went back a few years ago that it had changed to tunic and pants.

i have a couple of scrub dresses.

they're ceil blue, cap sleeves and wrap around to back, snapping for closure.

a hidden drawstring adjusts the waist.

i love them.

they're long (mid-shin), flattering and comfortable.

i bought them a few yrs ago, last 2.

haven't seen any since, or i'd where them daily.

honest abe. :)

I loved wearing an "olden-style" soft white scrub dress. I don't remember where I got it and it has been YEARS since I wore a uniform, but I did wear dresses quite often...with good old white support hose and "sensible" shoes. mmmm, those were the days!!! ;)

OP, I take it from your post you are a student...make sure you check with your school before you buy anything. Some schools are unholy picky about uniforms and may have specific standards for dresses. I'm sure they'd allow a dress style...but they may have style requirements.

You are correct, I'm a student. The only requirement was white hose, knee length, no ruffles, eyelet or embellishments. In other words, if it was a plain white dress at the appropriate length, then it was a "go".
