Since I want to work in a hospital and already have my RN license, I was wondering if they'd accept me as a regular volunteer. The thing I'm concerned about is liability...
I feel that by volunteering I'd get the hang out the people and culture...and maybe even get my foot in the door. Has anyone tried this?

You could maybe volunteer but you would not be allowed to perform any "nursing duties" as a volunteer.

Agree...liability. Never hurts to ask the hospital!)

Tried it, hospital wouldn't allow it. Hope you have better luck.

I thought of that same idea. Would not work either in the hospital.
But, I am currently volunteering at a few different clinics. At one I am doing the needle exchanges and at the other I am doing health education. I am so hoping it leads to a job somewhere in public health!!! I just started volunteering.

You can volunteer in Hospice...they are always looking for people to volunteer. I know, when I was working in Hospice before my injury, I LOVED LOVED the volunteers that made them selves available to the families in time of need, it gave me time to do what I needed to do without having the family over my shoulders. Volunteers bring a sense of warmth and love to any environment.

I volunteered in an ER on weekends as a student. It was a great experience.
