Has anyone taken Biochem at WGU?

Published

Hi, I'm applying for the RN-BSN program at WGU. I sent in all my transcripts waiting for them to be reviewed but I think I have to take Biochem because I've never taken it. I was just wondering if anyone took it through WGU and what they thought about it? I'm very nervous about taking a science with lab online. If anyone can give me information about it I would appreciate it. How does the lab work, etc? Is it very hard? I was wondering if it would be better to take it through WGU or try and take it at a community college instead? My local community college has "Intro to general, organic, and biochem." It's 4 credits, would that be accepted and/or am I better off taking it at WGU? Thanks.

Am I the only one who used play doh for all of my task? Worked really well for shaping cells and such and i purchased from the dollar store.

Play-dough never crossed my mind, although now that you mentioned it, it's a good idea. I used yarn to make the hemoglobin model, veggies to make my amino acid model, and candy with toothpicks to craft my lipid models.

I used colored pipe cleaners for my hemoglobin, foam balls and dowels for my fat molecules (I think that was what it was, I remember something about demonstrating what poly-unsaturated means) and for my amino acids, I think I just drew a picture.

The Dollar Store....now you're speaking my language

Yep. When crafting my saturated and monounsaturated fatty acid models, I used cut-up candy gummy peach rings and toothpicks. I purchased all of the items at a local Family Dollar store.

is there an exam to finish the class or do you just complete the tasks and when completed you're done?

Biochem is done when you have succesfully completed all 5 tasks. No objective assessment.
