Has anyone graduated from Molloy College BSN/MSN program?

I was looking at this program and was told it will take 3 years to complete if I have no science prerequisites. This is basically the same, or 6 months longer than BSN programs elsewhere if I don't have prerequisites. My question is, what are you considered at the end of a program? An NP or an RN with a Masters?

Wow, Yes, I agree with you 100%- I'm new to the program and I hope it is not too much for me ( Im a working parent.) I'm just going for my 5- Nursing courses with a possitive attitude and hope for the best. I'm a little nervous, but happy..I really want to do this. Best of luck to my self! :yeah:

Wow thanks to all!

A few other questions:

About how large are the class sizes? Are there other places to study on campus other than the library? Do you feel safe walking around/on campus? How is the surrounding area? Do you know anything about Hempstead?

Hi! iam taking pre reqs at city tech but iam looking forward to transfering to something a little more closer. my gpa isnt that great in highschool but my first semester i have been doing really well around a 3.4 . Do i have a chance at getting into the nursing program at Molloy College? As a transfer student how significant is my SAT's and h.s. gpa a factor in my application? In my only second semester of pre reqs when do i have to take the entrance exam? How hard was the Math part? I heard you have to get a 90%? What kind of basic math is it? any advice on taking on da test and what to expect? thank you

to SKNY re your comment that they told you the pgm could be completed in 2 years, then it took 3.5 -- I had a feeling it would be drawn out when they didnt include any specifics on their website lol.

it sounds like basically a 1 year accelerated BSN for non Nurse BS holders plus a standard 2 year masters, with a 6 month penalty!

> any one else have feedback on Malloys dual degree for BS holders?

Dream, I was wondering how you're doing..... I am a single working parent and have applied to the dual degree program for this fall. I have my pre-reqs and was told that I could graduate in 5 semesters (2 1/2 years) with my BSN as well as 9 or so credits toward my MSN. I would love, love, LOVE to know how you're managing!

some of the staff can be very helpful to the students and some are down right mean and nasty. being able to survive this program depends on the professor you have. some of them know their information but dont know how to teach it and some of them who are great teachers have VERY DIFFICULT exams. I have had a mixture and regret taking some professors that are "easy", because i realize that i didnt learn what i was supposed to. the nursing lab has great staff, who care for the students and will dry ur tears but the lab itself it not up to par to what it should be. the lab is mostly filled with students who are in their first clinical and get in ur way. Registration is a complete nightmare, u have to register with an advisor, there is no online registration where you can do it yourself. Most of the advisors dont know anything about registration, and will mess u up if u are not an informed student. registering for clinical is not what it appears to be. u register for one thing and they changed and dont tell u until they day before u start( i registered for thurs, fri, sat 3-9 pm and was put in sat- sun 7am to 7pm). the campus is very small, and u know everyone in the nursing program(which means everyone knows ur business). the library is small, noisy and they close at 10pm during the week and at 5 on the weekend (I ended up going to another college and used their library a few times). there is no such thing as studying or going to the library during finals cause it is so noisy and crowded (i studied in my car, in the parking lot for MANY hours). the cafeteria has salad, wraps, dry hamburgers with soggy old french fries and if ur lucky u can find a cold soda!!!! or you can pay .25 for a cup of ice. they close at 2:30 mon - thurs, and 1 on friday. if u get hungry at 2:31, u have to eat from the 3 vending machines that dont work most of the time. however, the school does provide 2 microwaves for students that are dirty and dont get cleaned. if u want to eat, you have to drive to the nearest fast food spot. 99.999% of the students commute and depending on what time ur calss is u may or may not find parking and u will get a ticket if u park where u are not supposed to. Public transportation is hell, buses comes once an hr if ur lucky and stops running at certain times. ur best bet is to live as close to the school as possible or drive.

Are things any better, Skny???????

How do you get into Molloy's program? Do you start taking the Nursing courses your first semester or do you have to complete all of the prerequisites first? What gpa are they looking for you?

The dual degree program is for people who already have a bachelors degree in another major with at least a 3.3 GPA. They take 98 of your previously earned credits as transfer credits. You do need the typical pre-reqs to begin the nursing classes (including Chemistry). They also look at your SAT scores - if you don't have them, you need pass a math & writing proficiency test.

I'm not sure how the traditional program works though...

HI!

Can anyone tell me more about the dual degree program? Is it for those students who already have a bachelors degree and are looking to get a BSN degree? how long is the dual degree program (semester length)? I heard it was set and it is hard to accelerate in this program.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

The program is 2 years, with summer semesters in between if you choose. It's hard to accelerate because of the way it's set up. You must take the courses in sequence, you can't take some of them simultaneously. The program accepts students with non-nursing Bachelor's, with the goal to advance them to MSN (if they choose).

How is everyone doing so far? :)

im new here, I applied to the program for fall 2011. I was just wondering what the GPA was of people who were accepted into the program?
