I work in a 41 bed unit. Favoritism runs rampant and is blatantly obvious on our unit. The associate director of nursing (ADN) is very very biased. Her favorites are the lazy RNs who don't do anything. They will get away with everything. One time, a lazy RN assessed a patient as "alert and oriented x3" whereas the patient was actually a nonverbal, bedbound patient on a mechanical ventilator. That RN did not get in any trouble. The RNs that are honest and do the work, they will get in trouble. The assignments are done by the charge RN. The charge RN is lazy also. How did that lazy RN get into the position as charge RN? I don't know. The assignments are not done fairly. Sometimes I end up getting an assignment with 6 or 7 high acuity patients while the other RNs get away with 4 patients that are not high acuity. How is that fair?!! Who did I complain to? There is no one. ADN does not care. Charge RN does not care. The nursing supervisors do not care. I guess to go to the director of nursing but then the ADN will get upset and will make things worse. I believe the director knows some of the issues that are happening but it seems that she is powerless to do anything. The ADN is a vindictive person. It is not a good place to work. I would not entrust the lives of my family members to the hands of some of these RNs that work on my unit. Any advice on how to deal with this?

It is sooo true. It is ALL about covering yourself and making sure that you don't violate the hospital policies. It really isn't about patient care or safety. The "higher ups" of management will say all the "right" things at the appropriate times but what they actually DO is completely the opposite.

Hello!! I'm from NY and I received a RN job offer in Houston. I just had questions about the license transfer/endorsement process. I researched online and found Nurse Endorsement Application. I asked the recruiter from the hospital about this and he said had no idea because he never heard about endorsement application and to call the TX Board of Nursing. I called them and I was on hold for a very long time. So I was wondering...am I doing this in the right way or is there another step that I am missing? How long does it take to get a temporary license so I can start working right away? NY is a noncompact state while TX is a compact state..will there be a delay to get the temp license because of this?

NS81, you are not alone with your job frustration and discouragement. I agree with you..it is very very tough in NY. I graduated in December 2011 and still haven't found a job. I'm from NY and I applied everywhere in the 5 boroughs, Long Island, Westchester County and Albany.... there is nothing. I applied to CT, PA, NJ also..and still nothing. I have set up careerbuilder account. I think the best thing for new grads such as you and me would be to go South to places like FL or TX, unless you know someone who knows someone who will let you in at an NY hospital as a new grad. But coming back to NY with some experience might better than waiting around in NY forever.

The fellowship that I mentioned was the Cardiothoracic ICU fellowship. Each fellowship is different..so perhaps for that fellowship..only 10 people were interviewed. Thanks for the info, ZellRN.

Hey fellow applicants! I been out of nursing school since December 2011 and passed the boards in Feb. Since it's been a long time and this residency RN program which I would love to get into, only starts in March 2013...what are the chances for a "old" new RN grad?

Regarding the fellowships...they start picking people for interviews within 3-4 days after it has been posted. About 10 people are chosen for interviews, 5 are selected. I heard this from a person who is currently in a fellowship.

Hi! I got my email packet in the mail yesterday and I applied the day it was open. I'm from NY...so I'm hoping that they will at least call me for an interview whenever the interviewing process begins. Does anyone know if they hire a lot of out of state RNs for this program?

Well, first of all..let just me clarify this…I didn’t post this thread for any of you to do my assignment for me. I wouldn’t want or expect you to do this assignment, ok? Secondly, I was just confused by the assignment because it was very vague with the directions on how to do the assignment. I just put “MI” as an example.

Hi. I just started nursing school 4 weeks ago! We already have papers to do in addition to all the studying and exams coming up. I just wanted to ask if anyone can help me out with this evidence based paper that I have to do. We are suppose to pick a nursing diagnosis and then identify subjective and objective data that is necessary to support the diagnosis. I picked myocardial infarction...but I know that is a medical diagnosis and not a nursing diagnosis. What would the nursing diagnosis for MI be?? Then we have to identify 5 nursing interventions that will lead to short and long goal achievement. It also said to identify the criteria that will be used to evaluate goal achievement relative to the diagnosis selected. I really have no idea what is meant by that.

Ynabeana, thanks for the info! How long after you ordered your scrubs, did you actually receive it? We have to order the lab jacket too, right? Does the ID badge come with the uniform? I was a little unsure about the ID badge. Thanks again!

I didn't order my uniform yet. Is it too late? I was unsure of when to order it thats why. Do we have to order the uniform through that company or can we get an uniform just like it from another store? I forgot what they said about this during the mini orientation in June. Check your Concordia email...I received an email on Tuesday about uniforms and ID badges and other relevant information. When is everyone thinking of ordering the textbooks?

VtNJ32, Did anyone order the uniforms and their ID badges? According to the email that I received, we are suppose to wear our ID badges the first few weeks of classes.
