Im soooo nervous, seems like its something that can make or break you. You do all this work just to get into NS and if you dont get 90% on one math test your out???

Anyone not good at math share some positivity...... I like calculators personally.

Anyone know of people who flunked out of a program because of this?

You should be able to take the dosage test more than one time if necessary, but hopefully that won't be the case. Did your class have a workshop for the math?

I don't know of anyone personally that couldn't pass the test, but I'm sure it's happened.

Just practice, lots and lots of practice story problems!

Good luck!! I'm headed into my final dosage calculation test on Tuesday, myself!

I personally had a hard time with our 1st year tests.

Heard from a few people that they would not let us fail out, in fact a few people ended up taking the last test home and brought it back.

Also as the tests progressed it seemed like they just repeated questions,

coming from someone who freaked out at every test, see if they have a person that can walk you through the steps, break it down and just keep doing problems. Our library had many dosage books with the answers in the back.

GOOD LUCK

Yes--third semester a friend of mine flunked her peds math test (we get two chances--she failed both times). She had to repeat the semester. Granted we have to get a 90% to pass! :)

BTW, the BEST book I have found (makes things simple) is Math for Nurses.

GL!!

No one in my class had any problem with it. I don't think you will either. We only had one gal who must have put something wrong -- I overheard the instructor say, "Why don't you take a good long look at this and make sure it's right." Then she changed something and it must have been fine.

Frankly, if someone can't pass this test after two or three tries, they shouldn't be a nurse. It's really, really, really, really simple.

I know, it's probably simple stuff.....I have major math anxiety I guess. Wether its warranted or not. Im just having statistics and chem flashbacks I guess.

Heh, heh. You are just having anxiety about nursing school. With me it was the practicum where we had to do procedures on dummies and get checked off. If you didn't pass you just had to do remedial work -- but I was still completely freaked and nervous out it! It makes no sense.

If you passed statistics and chem you are not going to have a problem passing the dosage calc. test. Really!!!

Yes in the previous class, about 5 people failed out because of the math test...At our nursing school, a student needs to get 90% to pass..If you cannot get that, you can take it again and have to score 95%..But in our class, no one failed but the previous class did..The instructor gave the class some extra credit to put them over the 90% mark..Well my grade was 103% anyway in the math test..

About 12 people in my 1st semester failed the first time, and then 7 of those failed the second time. I even had one person fail out of the last semester because of the math test. It was on titrations and such. What a bummer to fail out on the last semester. She was completely out of the program after that.:o

:uhoh21: What school was this at? Just wondering how nervous I should be when that time comes.

Really it's not that hard. Just work plenty of problems and you will do fine. Last semester all 80 of us had to pass the dosage calc test with a 90&% or above, we have 3 tries to pass. Out of 80, only 2 people had to retake the test, they passed the second time.

You shouldn't be nervous at all. That's what gets people into so much trouble--nerves.

Why did that girl fail?? I don't know. We wondered why she didn't come to us for help. She had already failed one semester, so when she failed the math test she was out. Why don't people ask other people for help? I certainly loved helping fellow students out, and never hesitated to ask someone else when I needed it.

The last test was on titrations, amiodarone, heparin, theophylline...etc. They are harder to calculate, but still easy enough for you to do. You did far harder calculations in your math prereqs!
