Published

hey guys i'll be going into hfcc program august 08 which is about 4 more months.

i haven't recieved a letter yet but, i know for certain taht i'm going in, is there anyone elso going in?

let me know so that we can chat about it.

i'm very anxious and can't wait.

good luck to all it will be a fun journey i hear, demanding but, fun.:bowingpur:yeah::bow::heartbeat:no::no::clown:

so how was your orientation:yeah:? how many people accepted? any info for those of us waiting :saint:for our letters still?

well i don't know who excepted and who didn't but, i do know just from talking to a couple of people that some said that they were unable to start in the fall(only 4 people) but, like i said that was just the few that i spoke with.

[color=#a0522d]it was about 60 people in my orientation, and it was ok we had a few papers to fill out and also they gave us evertything that need to be in by aug4 which is health appraisal, drug test etc..

[color=#a0522d]other than that it was ok can't wait to start :nurse:

don't worry you'll be in tooo:yeah:

Again, congratulations for getting into HFCC. I hope you enjoy your time there, and do very, very well! Yay, you!!

I am surprised that they told you when you'd be accepted into the program. I just have 3 more classes to finish up over Spring and Summer and then I can put my name on the waitlist in September.

In fact, I just saw Lorainne yesterday, and she told me anywhere from Winter 2010 to Fall 2010. Which would be 1 1/2 to 2 yrs!! They said they've seen a 20% jump in the number of students coming on to the waitlist, so maybe that is why they gave me such a long range????

Congrats! I am so jealous!

Yeah that might be the case but, i'm rooting for u you'll get in soon enough. My butt is so excited that i went to the uniform store and ordered my uniforms already, and i had my littman steth weeks ago. i also forgot i also got my gym shoes today.

It is soo funny that i was sooooo excited to get in and truthfully still is but, now that the time is winding down, i find myself getting very scared.

Honey Today i went to register for fall nursing courses in front of the nursing office, and i felt like, the time is approaching so fast.

just a bit nervous ya know but happy and excited at the same time:no:

Ha ha. They start about 6:50 am at most clinicals, sometimes earlier depending on you have at HFCC. Some nurses on some floors don't want students at report, so they ask the instructor to have you arrive after report, which gives you another 30 min. But 8 am??? Not usually unless you have a slacker, LOL

Yeah that! 6:50 sounds about right! But there is an oppurtunity for PM clinicals if you're not a morning person! Those start around 3:00. But you really have no control (unless few people want PM's and then they start requesting volunteers) cuz they do it by lottery so you just cross your fingers and hope your number isn't the last one.

Congrats and good luck! It's a wild ride in nursing school! But HFCC is awesome, I just love it there and you will too!

So, I went to the nursing office yesterday and was pretty much guaranteed that I WONT be called for the fall program. I asked if I could be confident about the winter program and was told, no promises could be made because anyone who had been called for previous entry and postponed would get first dibs. I guess you can postpone up to three times and they still hold your spot on the list.

Needless to say I am dissappointed:cry:. I really wanted to start this fall but I'll be devastated if I don't make it in for the winter program. I can't wait till fall of 09:nono:. That's just crazy! Let's just keep our fingers crossed! I don't wish any ill will on anyone but if SEVERAL people want to postpone the fall semester that would be great:yeah:. I'm just going to keep the faith that it all works out for the best for everyone:clown:

FYI, got on waitlist Dec. 07.

Im so sorry to hear that for you, keep in mind as long as you have your name on the wait list you WILL be getting a letter; I dont think any other colleges waiting lists are any shorter. I am still waiting also and dont think I will be in in Fall either, I am too afraid to go into the nursing office and ask:eek:! Were they cool when you went in there or did they act like you were bugging them? Who did you speak with?

It is my knowledge that you can only postpone 1 full year, (I did to finish up co-req's) and then you are put at the bottom of the list. Perhaps in the last 2 years they have changed that criteria but I would double-check with the demand being so high.

Even 2 yrs ago I was told to expect a 12-18 mo wait and I rec'd a letter in 1 yr. So I would say 18 mo is a fair bet if the applications are up 20%. In the meantime, if you are definitely planning to get your BSN, take micro, patho and your other chem classes.

It's tough for the nursing office to know a definite timeline because the students who fail out (usually 1/3 of the 220 students that start in the Fall and the 60 that start in the Winter, fail out of 155 or 221/222). So they have to keep open spots for those returning and they restart in 1 yr. They don't have an affirmative until those students respond.

Do not let the above paragraph, scare you. There are so many reasons for this but it wise to only work part-time while enrolled. It's just too much work to try to do if you work full-time; there are those special ppl who have it in them to manage it all but they must be severely sleep deprived and have an excellent support system. Some are just so motivated, I really gotta hand it to them! When's there's a will, there's a way!

Actually, I had heard about applications being up and the waitlist being extended but was told that was not the case. I also asked M.Z. in the nursing office about spots being held for those students who fail out and was told spots are held only for those who postponed. I don't know, it seems like everyone is told something different. I'll just hope for the best case scenario. My sister in law just gave birth to my first niece two days ago and spending time in the hospital lately, really makes me want to be there!!!!! I'm so excited for this process to begin I can't stand it. I truly wish I had more free time because I would volunteer just so I could be within that atmosphere.

We always understood that if we failed out, we'd get a spot to take the class over again the NEXT year IF there was room after the waitlist people (you guys) were contacted. The failers (is that a word?) were sent to the bottom of the list, so you waiters (heheh) get precedence over the 2nd timers. The postponers (hee!) get to delay their chance only once, so accept it or get out of the way!

You know, the smart girl would have everything in order in case they call at the last minute, trying to get every single spot filled. Dig out your immunization records now. Find out where you can update them quickly if necessary. Locate a BLS class that you can take within two weeks if needed. (There's a place in Allen Park where you can sign up and get in within a few days.) Keep a couple/several hundies ($) in the bank that you don't touch until they call - this will get the ball rolling on the things you need to accomplish quickly to enter the program.

The ladies in the office move fast and can get you in quickly. Be ready for them should your luck turn on a dime and you get the fabulous phone call. (And oh yeah, don't ever be rude to them....they'll remember and it ain't pretty.)

Good luck. It's worth all this pressure....honestly! :grad:

I have no record of my immunizations (I'm too old and my parents lost them) but I have been doing my Hep B series (last one due in July). The titer should cover me right? Meaning, I don't really need a shot record if I get a shot for anything shown missing in my titer? If that is true, can you get your shots at the same place they do the titer? I've been getting my Hep B done thru the county. Thank you for any info you have.
