I kind of got a late start, but applied to several of the internship/residency programs at Baylor for January. I am just wondering if anyone has applied and gotten a response or an interview? I received the standard email stating that they have received my application, but nothing else. If you know anything about the program.... what they look for, how competitive it is..... if you have heard anything....how many positions available, etc.... Please post!!!!!
I am originally from Dallas, but go to school in Nashville at Belmont University. So are you in the new grad residency program? I have only talked with the nurse manager who gave me the offer and not the recruiter yet who I had my phone interview with...so I am guessing we start on the same day...I am going to call her tomorrow and double check. I knew it was either January 11th or the 18th. Congrats!

I applied for Baylor's Critical Care, PCU, and ER internship programs. I recieved a call from the ER recruiter about a month ago. I completed my phone interview, then a week or two later was scheduled for a in person interview for Baylor Garland's and Carrollton's ED.
I was told that for ER's internship through Baylor alone they had 380 applicants and were only hiring about 25 or so I believe. Sheesh!! I was lucky. The thing that helped me get a job was experience in healthcare. I have worked as a PCT in ICU for two years, ortho for three years, and been a nurse extern for a year in PEDS. Thankfully this experience helped me.
Thankfully I got two job offers and now have had a job since the end of October. I applied the day they posted the internships and recieved a phone call a few weeks later. But, I was told every recruiter is different for each individual program.
Good luck!
Is everyone starting on January 18th? My recruiter and HR consultant told me that my hire date would be Jan.4, but my nurse educator sent me an email stating my general orientation would start on the 18th. I've been trying to wait patiently for my official offer letter to see what it says, but I'm not a patient person. :imbar
Just curious what everyone else's time-line is like. I won't have a chance to call HR during business hours until later on this week. I am so ready to graduate and get started already!
I supposedly start the 18th of Jan. But I am not 100%. I have not recieved a official anything in the mail. Just emails and a verbal job offer from my recruiter.
I completed the backround check portion online and am waiting for them to send me the Quest email for the drug check...Anybody else recieve anything??

Wow, I haven't done any of that! I'm ready to get everything started. It still doesn't feel real to me yet.
I completed the background check, the employee health check and the drug test. However, my HR person told me that you can't complete the physical or drug test more than 30 days out from your hire date. My hire date is earlier than most of the other GNs because they wanted me to get started as soon as possible. I actually start December 7th. So I was able to go ahead and complete everything.
I had to call HR and ask how I was supposed to start the process. They then sent me an email with specific instructions on exactly what to do.
Also, I forgot to mention that when you start looking for a place to live, most places want an offer letter showing that you have been offered a position and what your pay will be. I called HR about this and they produced a letter the next day for me. Just a heads up for relocating. I think I have completed most of the process now. I am all set to start December 7th. I am by no means an expert, but if any of you who are relocating or just getting started with the process have questions, I will be glad to try to help. My position is at Baylor Dallas, so that is the area I have the most knowledge about.
Hey, I found out today that my start date is January 18th too. I am working at Big Baylor Downtown, but I am assuming this is the same for most of the other satellite locations. They said we all start on days and have two 8-hour class days a week and we are precepted for 2 day shifts a week!
Where is everyone working? Which Baylor location/specialty???

Thanks for the information. Do you mind sharing what the employee health check consisted of? I also wonder how in depth the physical will be. I tried calling HR today but I had to leave a voicemail. I'm still a couple of weeks away from the 30 day mark, so there's probably not much for me to do at this point.
That's really awesome that you get to start so soon! I'm so ready to be done with school..I have major senioritis. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
The employee physical is not extensive at all. BP, weight, height and a review of your shot records. You will get a TB test (two if you haven't had one this year) and if you don't have shot records, they will draw blood for a titer of MMR..... etc. I also had to get a CBC since I will be working in the bone marrow transplant unit. They will also fit you for that horrid N95 mask if you haven't already been fitted. That's about it.
