Has anyone been accepted into the Mt. Sac Nursing Program Spring 2009

Published

Has anyone gotten into Mt. Sac's nursing program for Spring 2009? There is an orientation week that starts on Monday. Does anyone have any insights or knows about what will happen during this orientation? I know there's a HESI exam for Tuesday. Do they select the final candidates based on the results or are you in regardless? It's all very exciting!

Is anyone already in the Mt. Sac program or has recently graduated? What's it like? Are the instructors fair? What clinical sites do you go to?

I know that as an LVN student, I've seen Mt. Sac students at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina. Where else do you guys go?

Just curious.

Does Mt. Sac have a waiting list?

If so how long is it?

I am currently taking my last 2 prereqs and I probably have to wait to apply for Spring 2010.

Yes, Mt. SAC does have a waiting list. They use the lottery system. So, how long you'd have to wait really depends on the number you get. The smaller the number, the sooner you get to start.

The Pham class for Winter was really interesting. I felt like I'd really learned a lot in such a short time. The final was very fair and everyone passed it. There were 8 people that got A's on the final. I'm pretty sure that these people also got A for the class as well. The first half of the class (first 3 weeks) was all math (dosage calculation). The midterm was also all calculation. Many people did really well for the first half of the class. The majority of class was in the A and B range. However, that could not be said about the second half of the semester. The second half was all about medication. It was quite insane how much information we were expected to learn. Overall, the class didn't do so well. We had fewer A's and more B's and C's. There were students who got ?? (that's the symbol Prof.Romero used for anything less than a C). The second half of the class was a lot harder than the first. Maybe, it's because we didn't have a lot of time to prepare/read. Overall, though, I'm glad I took it during Winter. Now, I'm done for Pham (whoo hoo). I just hope that I'll still remember everything when I get to 1B (lol).

Prof. Romero was such a cool professor. He's funny, intelligent, kind and best of all, fair. For sure, he's one of the best professors I've had.

Good luck to you all who will be taking Pharm during Spring. You will have plenty of time to study for it. It's a really fun class and I know many of you will really enjoy it.

Thanks a lot for the info about pharm class! I just started a few days ago on that blue packet that he gave us in the first orientation. I’m almost done with that… I’ve also been trying to read the pharm book to be prepared, but I’m unsure of what exactly I should be reading and studying. How does he test on the second half of the semester? I mean, should I be memorizing definitions and terms, or drug side effects, etc. etc.??

Hello Everyone!! Just wanted to find out how everyone is doing in the program? Any comments?:clown:

Hello Cabo,

So far so good . Love it and hope to continue in the program despite all the people who have gotten cut because of failing the dosage calcs portion. It really sucks to see our classmates have to leave . In my group (Wednesday) I think 4 people have been taken out of the program. One failed 1A and the other 3 failed the dosage calcs quiz. There may be more but I'm not aware of any others.

It's been a pretty interesting trip. Pharm is challenging and I'm so glad it's almost over (2 more weeks!!) 1A is done with and now 1B poses its own challenges such as passing the dosage calcs quiz. This time around I'm in love with the hospital I go to: Foothill Pres. The staff is just so friendly and helpful. Our instructors are incredibly smart and really want us to succeed. My classmates are awesome. I'm in love with my study group!! :redbeathe I think we all seem to support and encourage each other. Without them I would probably feel lost.

Overall, I still believe the program is wonderful and it's exciting to be a part of this incredible class.

How is your experience in the program, Cabo?

:banghead: I'm not in the program, yet. I was told i might start in the Fall, 2009 as an alternate.......sucks! I wish i was in the program already. Its horrible to hear of students not passing. Are the instructors clear in their teaching for drug calculations? Or do you think it has to do with not studying enough? I'm actually very nervous in taking that class, but i hear that you have to find a method that is comfortable and take it from there......what do you think?

What are your hours for Clinicals?

Hi! I am an alternate for Fall 2009 (#114). I will be going to the orientation week June 22-26. I am soooo freaked out. I know I have a good chance of getting in since I am like, 19 spaces from the cutoff (96 openings).

I am scared about the HESI entrance exam. Angie Del Rio said that of the 120 staudents who took the exam last semester, 10 failed. I guess that isn't bad, but I can't help being completely nervous. I am so excited to be so close. Anyone have specific things I could study and/ or their prefered study guide/ review? There is approximately seven weeks to study, I guess. Yikes!!!

:hpygrp: alright, you got a letter!! when did you receive your letter? i was told i was #20 in the alternates list....maybe i should call?

I received my letter probably about 4 weeks ago that I was an alternate for Fall 09. I know that all the acceptance letters jad to be in by May 1st but I have yet to find out if I am in yet for sure. What about you?

I would call Angie Del Rio if you are concerned about any thing. She's really nice. 909 594 1399 Her extension is 5246.

i did call and she said my letter will go out today!!

do you know if we do start the program in the fall when it begins?

Yes, it is supposed to start August 24th, I believe. But orientation June 22-26 is absolutely mandatory. Angie Del Rio told me that she thinks we need to be there at 8 am and would be over between 1 and 4pm approx. The test will be HESI; therre is a HESI review book you can buy (I bought from Amazon). I think some people think it will be TEAS, that's what I though until she told me. But only 10 out of 120 failed, so I am trying not to worry. (It's not helping)
