Has anyone gotten into Mt. Sac's nursing program for Spring 2009? There is an orientation week that starts on Monday. Does anyone have any insights or knows about what will happen during this orientation? I know there's a HESI exam for Tuesday. Do they select the final candidates based on the results or are you in regardless? It's all very exciting!
Is anyone already in the Mt. Sac program or has recently graduated? What's it like? Are the instructors fair? What clinical sites do you go to?
I know that as an LVN student, I've seen Mt. Sac students at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina. Where else do you guys go?
Just curious.

Hey Bella- I went to the orientation for Mt. Sac today for spring 2009. I'm taking the HESI tomorrow at the library. I'm nervous. Everyone tells me it's basic stuff, but I've always been horrible in reading comprehension.
What did you think of today's orientation?

Hi everyone!
I checked with the Mt Sac nursing advisor and they said that acceptance letters wouldn't be mailed out until the end of this month (Dec) or possibly Jan. How have you guys already been accepted? Were you already on a waiting list? Because this was my first application, so that would make sense.
Thanks!
I applied November 2007. I had finished my pre-reqs June 2007. They contacted me in May 2008 to tell me I was accepted but only as an alternate. I was/still am in an LVN program that finishes in 2 weeks. I turned it down but they contacted me again 2 weeks ago to start for Spring 09. I'm still an alternate but I think I'll get in. So it took me about 2 semesters to get in, but since I deferred for Fall 08, it actually took me 3 semesters. Just apply. I heard of someone who just applied, and got in! 1 semester wait... it's possible.

Hey Arch. It was pretty interesting. I am excited to be in the program. It seems as if they all want us to succeed. The class size did overwhelm me. So many people to get to know. It's thrilling and exciting. I take the HESI tomorrow in 67A. Don't worry too much about the exam. Just do the best you can. Everyone has a weak point. Ratios and fractions are mine. Just take your time tomorrow and relax. You're in the program!! Also, remember they mentioned that if we didn't pass, we would have to "remediate" those portions. That would suck, but it'll help you do better in the program if you strengthen a weakness.
I was in a hurry today since I had 2 finals in my LVN class and I missed a quiz in the morning. I was late by about 15 minutes. Traffic at Grand and Temple was a killer..!! I was trying to study during orientation but it was hard.
Good luck! I'm sure we'll cross paths during our 2-year program.

It's orientation this entire week, so if you're not there, I don't think you made it. There were 115 people on the list today, and they take 96. That means there are 19 people on the "alternate" list. I'm #3 on that list, so I'm hoping my chances to get in are good.
I was on the waiting list since November 2007. When did you apply?
I was or am an alternate too, but I'm not exactly sure. I mean I was an alternate, but then I got a letter that said "Congratulation, you are finally on the most exciting final two years of your journey to becoming a nurse. We are excited to have you and welcome you to the Nursing Program at Mt. San Antonio College..." Does this mean I am still an alternate or they accepted me? This letter didn't mention anything about still being an alternate, so I'm guessing that I am one of the 96??? Did you get this letter Bella or did you get another?
Math is really the only thing that I am confident in for this test. If we don't pass and we get into the remediation program that means it will delay our process into the program. I think if I don't pass then I am going to say heck with that school, and try for another school next semester. Mt. Sac was actually one of my last choices for a school (just because they don't accept my communications class that I've already taken and ALL the other schools do!). If we both do end up getting into this program and we cross paths maybe we can get together and I can help you on your math while you can help me in... whatever else. haha.
I got the same exact letter, Arch. When I went to the office last week to pick up the paperwork, they told me that I was in alternate in the #3 position. My letter says exactly the same as yours, though.
I think the remediation would be in addition to the nursing classes we would have to take. I don't think it would affect our status for the final 96. We should probably ask on Wednesday. There were many questions today, don't you think? I was sitting next to a girl that was constantly asking questions. She was getting on my nerves!
I actually like Mt. Sac a lot. It is my preferred school. I heard many great things about the nursing program there. I've been a student since 2002 when I was doing accounting. I haven't applied to any other schools because I was hoping to get in there.
Don't worry! I'm sure we'll both do fine..!! Good luck tomorrow!!

Has anyone received any e-mail after they've taken the exam? I tried to log in to see my results but I don't have the Department ID. It says on the website that the Department ID is supposed to be sent to the e-mail address provided at the beginning of the test. I did enter my e-mail address but as of now I haven't got any e-mail from them. So, I was just wondering if anyone who took the test today has received any e-mail (with the Department ID).
Also, I was surprised that we weren't allowed to use calculator on the Math part of the exam.

I took the test today as well. I got the results for the Anatomy portion but only when I got to the end of the entire test. I didn't understand how to see the results even though I kept on clicking on the button. I also tried to get into the website and couldn't because I don't have the Dept. ID. I didn't get the e-mail either. I guess tomorrow we can ask for it to get the full picture.
The math wasn't so bad, but I was surprised as well. They had mentioned that we could use the calculator on Monday. I was in 69B and we were all given scratch paper that we handed in at the end of the exam. Everyone else seemed just as surprised as I was when they said we couldn't use it.
Did they say that we needed to pass with a 70% overall, or for each section? I'm scared now. :uhoh21: I know I did well on all the portions, except for Anatomy (the one I saw).
