Has anyone been accepted into the Mt. Sac Nursing Program Spring 2009

Published

Has anyone gotten into Mt. Sac's nursing program for Spring 2009? There is an orientation week that starts on Monday. Does anyone have any insights or knows about what will happen during this orientation? I know there's a HESI exam for Tuesday. Do they select the final candidates based on the results or are you in regardless? It's all very exciting!

Is anyone already in the Mt. Sac program or has recently graduated? What's it like? Are the instructors fair? What clinical sites do you go to?

I know that as an LVN student, I've seen Mt. Sac students at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina. Where else do you guys go?

Just curious.

You need to take Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and English(college level). You need to see a counselor. See a counselor before you do anything. Physiology is a separate class from anatomy. You cannot take them to gether. You have to take Anatomy first. You can take Micro concurrently with either. I suggest taking it with Anatomy. Physiology is harder. Every nursing program has different addmitance requirements, but most schools, (and mtsac) require these. You need at least a 2.5 on the first three, I believe. Mt Sac's waiting time to get in after you apply is about 1 to 2 semesters (unheard of). Most schools waiting list is 3-4 years. MtSacs is shorter because the accept twice as many students and they use the lottery system instead of a waiting list.

ok great!!

thank you so much for your help

so these are the classes that i need to take as an incoming freshman?

i dont need any math at all??

You need to talk to a counselor. Seriously. I wasted several years in college because I didn't see a counselor. Just walk in or make an appointment. What I do know is that you need to complete your general ed before you start the program. Or you'll be taking it in nursing school. They will not let you graduate from nursing school without them. You need math, history, life development, psycholofy, p.e., art, etc. Some classes will be able to be used for both. You can take your nursing prerequisites at the same time. And you will have one to two semesters (and summer and winter intercession) to complete the rest after you finish your prerequisites and apply. SEE A COUNSELOR. Don't register for any classes until you do. And you better hurry up because registration starts for MT. Sac on the 21st. You won't be able to register for your classes until at least the 30th probably though, because you're new. So you might not get your prerequisite classes the first semester, but no one really finishes that fast doing this anyway. Good luck!

Just to clarify, I just got my letter with my lottery number and the number that I assume is my position on the waiting list, which is pretty high. When do they use the lottery numbers? I have two friends that never recieved their lotto number they got an acceptance letter right away. That was two years ago they just grad. in June so I am not sure if the list was shorter then. You mentioned how you have classmates that have been removed from the program because of failing test, do they then add more students? Just trying to understand the whole system. Thanks for any responses. Can't wait to be where you are.....

Hello Henderfive, :wink2:

I don't really understand how the lottery system works at Mt. Sac. I was like #85 or something when I got into the program. I was an alternate but still got in. They accept 96 1st semester students each semester. I would suggest you go to the Nursing office in 67B second floor and talk to them there and ask them questions about the lottery system. :nurse:

If you fail a dosage calc test, they re-test you again within a week. If you fail it the second time, you are then expelled from the program. :bluecry1: You can reapply again the next semester to try to get back in but they don't guarantee that you will. They give you remediation in the meantime. (If you fail 2 dosage calcs tests, then they won't let you back in at all.) Your spot is then taken up the next semester or next nursing class by people who were in the same position (failed a dosage calc and had to restart where they left off) or incoming LVNs (2nd semester).

Hope this answers your questions..!! Good luck..!!

It was a great help. Good Luck to you, I will try and be patient and wait my turn......it will be here soon.

Thanks again

Did you make it into the Fall 09 program after all? I was also an alternate but I am starting this Spring 2010.

Specializes in Psychiatric Nursing.

I think now they no longer accept 96 students/class anymore. It's more like 60 or something from what I've heard.

Hi,

I would like to know the names of the hospitals/city (for clinical) especially during the first semester.

No, I applied in Aug. 2009, I haven't heard what my number is now on the list. Looks like I won't get in until my year wait is up in Aug. unless the quote about going from 96 students to 60 is true, then it could be longer. That would be horrible. Good luck to you how exciting!

yep,

I called (Jan 2010) and they said they take 60 per semester. The wait list is up to 980. I think, high 900s for sure.

WOW! 900 that's crazy. Now they are having everyone on the list take the HESI and if you don't pass they move you back.
