Has anyone gotten into Mt. Sac's nursing program for Spring 2009? There is an orientation week that starts on Monday. Does anyone have any insights or knows about what will happen during this orientation? I know there's a HESI exam for Tuesday. Do they select the final candidates based on the results or are you in regardless? It's all very exciting!
Is anyone already in the Mt. Sac program or has recently graduated? What's it like? Are the instructors fair? What clinical sites do you go to?
I know that as an LVN student, I've seen Mt. Sac students at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina. Where else do you guys go?
Just curious.
Hi Everyone,
I, too, am soooo excited about being accepted into the nursing program. Thankfully, only had to wait one semester. I was given (no-charge) some nursing books from a friend who dropped the program (all ISBN numbers match), and I bought the others individually. I saved a bundle. Good thing to have wonderful, supportive friends. I'm hoping to develop other great relationships by the time this program is over. Can anyone respond to me how the winter pharmacology class is going? I was too afraid to attempt taking the class for such a short period, especially since math is by far my weakest subject. I've read some of the chapters in an attempt to stay ahead because, unfortunately, I tend to procrastinate . We'll see how that goes as time goes by. I am soooo anxious to get started so I can finish and begin to build a better life for my daughters. See ya at the orientation.
Hi Cabo2341,
The Hesi consists of math (be sure to go over ratios, percentages, fractions, and measurements i.e. metric systems, household & apothecary), English (vocab and language arts), anatomy (go over ear parts, anatomical positions, can't remember what else), and reading comprehension. Good luck!
I couldn't find a HESI study guide so I used the TEAS study guide. I believe they both go over basic subjects. I just spent about 4 hours studying the day before the test, especially the math, and it paid off. I was shocked that I scored so highly on the math, which is my weakest subject. When it came to the math, a lot of the examples I studied was on the test. I came to orientation as one of the last alternates accepted. I believed I signed in as the 119th person on the list. I really didn't think I would get in; however, the instructors kept telling me that my chances were good. Some people were still taking the HESI at that time. I don't know if some didn't pass it, which allowed me to get in or what. I also know that, if you look on the CA Board of Registered Nursing website, you will see that Mt. Sac's first time passing NCLEX is 95% for 120 students taking the test or something to that effect. So, I'm assuming around 100 people sounds correct. The others might be LVNs that were admitted into the program. Hopefully, this info helps.

i'm glad to come across Mounties in these forums!
i'm starting Spring '09 as well, bought the books and everything i needed (too excited!) and now i'm just scrambling around to get my physical exam and other requirements done before the feb 9 deadline.
they did say that you needed a reservation to get the book box, but i just walked in, asked for it and they gave it to me on the spot. perhaps it's because i went pretty early (2nd week of January) and they had more of the bundles left.
anyhoo, i'm excited to start this new chapter in our lives with you guys. :)
