Harper College Palatine IL

Hey all.

I will begin the nursing program at Harper College in Palatine this fall. I am just looking for some advice, or insight on the program. Like what teachers are great? or some that arent? where is a good place to do specific clinincals?? or anything you can possibly think of!!!

thanks

Sorry it took me so long to respond I was having computer trouble! I did buy the books from harper because it came in the bundle but boy was it expensive! I cant believe how many books we need for just first semester. I am really beginning to get really nervous for monday! I have hardly started to read either. When do you have patho?

Oh I know. I cant carry all those books at the same time! I have patho Mondays 12-250. What about you? And NUR 111 Tuesdays 8-1150. But I guess were supposed to meet for lab part of our NUR 112, Mondays depending on your patho schedule. So I have lab Mondays 9-11 cause Im in the afternoon patho. I thought I was going to have a nice late start Mondays, but no! I havent began reading either. I printed and read through the syllabi. But thats about it.

Whats your schedule like??

Specializes in Obstetrics.

You guys can do it!! I'm in my fourth semester. It's tough and time management is probably one of the harder things to accomplish in the program but you CAN do it. :-) Good luck girls!!!

Hey guys,

how is everyone doing in the program so far? clinical is coming up soon! ahh!!

Hey all,

I was wondering if you guys can tell me what your NLN scores were and how many points you each had when you were excepted into the program? I got an 85%tile on the NLN and have 60 points based on my scores & science grades. I would really appreciate your scores as I may be a little more reassured of getting in! Thank you :)

I am deciding on whether to go to Harper. I would start in the 3rd semester with only med surg since I have done the other classes at Oakton. How are the teachers for med-surg? There is one teacher at Oakton teaching med surg that half the students flunk. How is the 4th semester, it looks like a lot of classes.

I heard from various students in the RN program that Harper's professors do not get along and do not care about their students' success. They do not make themselves available to their students, either. I have also heard many people tell me they are usually straight A students and they are barely passing even with studying many, many hours a week. Any comments?

@PinkNBlue

Thanks for your input! I am hoping to get my math score up on the NLN exam. I got 76 percentile on my first attempt. With my other admission points I would have most likely gotten accepted into the program. However, in order to be accepted you need a 60% in verbal, 40 in math and 40 in science. Math has never been my subject and I only got a 22%. I am doing my best to learn all that I can and remember it so I can get that 40% required!! I have been using the internet, Khanacademy, and the practice books...but it's just soooo difficult for me!

I take the exam again on July 29. I NEED to get that math score up because if I don't I have to wait another 6 months to retake the NLN for the final time (3 is max), and if I do well I have to wait another year to apply!!

Does anyone have any advice for me??? I am really nervous and I am finding it difficult to find time to study for my classes I am currently taking and then also studying for this exam on top of working 40+ hours a week!!!

Hi everyone,

I am going to be attending Harper this Fall to take my Gen ed courses to then apply for Harpers nursing program in Fall 2015. When i visited the school and got a tour of the nursing department, i love it! I genuinely feel that Harper has a fantastoc program. Harper had more equipment than any four year school I visited as well.

I am looking for ANY advice that will help me reach my goal of getting in to the nursing program. I am not a minority at all, i have some Spanish speaking ability but not much, (just from high school spanish classes), i am a straight A student, VERY driven and focused.

I appreciate any tips you guys have! Thanks!!?

Hi i was just accepted into harpers program for the fall '14.

make sure you get bothing lower than a B in a prereq and score high on the NLN 80-90 percentile and meet their requirements for each section. I applied with 70 points out of the 90 Aced all my prereqs but had a B on anatomy and my NLN score was an 86 percentile. I used the NLN study guide by mcgrawhill which was exactly like the NLN its really all common sense for the most part but give yourself time to study for it. Study study study!! if you have to double up on bio makesure you do physiology and microbio they go together you review alot of stuff twice

Thank you that was very helpful! How did your schedule look for.that first year of pre reqs? I will be picking classes soon and any teacher reccommendations?

I took anaomy with DR. Hyde he was great! I loved his class! Make sure you attend lectures hes pretty funny but hates ppl who walk in late or fall asleep lol. For physio i took terrie kong she is awesome!! I loved er energy and she knows ALOT but shes also the gardest physio professor for microbio i took cheng shes a sweetheart and makes class fun lectures can be boring but this was my all time favorite class. I took physio and microbio together they overlap in material alot so theyre easier to study for you learn stuf teice lol
