Hair & clinical

I was just wondering what the requirements are for hair during clinical rotations? I know each school is different, but I assume they won't differ much. I have long hair and hate wearing it in a pony tail out, it makes me look like a little kid. I'm already little. I was thinking of getting a shorter hair cut..

LIke others have said, of the collar....so the guys with long hair had to get haircuts, and the girls, usually its up in a bun :)

When I started nursing school, I had hair down the middle of my back - I used a snood.

I want a snood but can't figure out where to buy them! Where did you get yours?

What the heck is a snood? I must google now..

Okay, how would a snood be okay for clinical? Wouldn't they be concerned with potential germs or something?

I have a HUGE head of hair -- spiral curls, past my waist when curly, down to my vertical smile when pulled straight. Absolutely copious amounts of hair. My go-to bun can put up in less than ten seconds and holds fast for an entire shift with a single hairstick. (I got some acrylic hairsticks that coordinate with my scrubs -- gotta love an excuse to buy hair toys!)

People who have only seen me with my hair up are always amazed when they see it down -- they had no idea it was so long or so curly. People who have only seen me with my hair down are always amazed when they see it up -- they can't believe I actually got "all that hair" into a single bun and that it's held with a single hairstick.

If you want to learn some different styles of buns, check out the volumes of tutorials on youtube or check out the articles by the lovely ladies at LHC.

Easy bun:

Pull hair into a ponytail. Secure with an elastic if a beginner - I no longer do this but it makes it easier.

Twist ponytail in a downward motion - basically from top of ponytail to bottom making it into a twisted ponytail.

Take twisted ponytail and wrap around elastic into a bun.

Secure with elastic or scrunchie. I'm a scrunchie person but I understand not everyone likes them ;)

Takes me 30 seconds and I don't have to look or use the first elastic these days. I had long hair except for one semester in school, so I always had to put it up.

Why would it be a potential for germs? It wouldn't be coming in contact with anything... I am referring to the small ones that wrap around the bun (like many ballet dancers wear).

So it's fine as long as it's not in your face and in a bun, right?

Thank you! I found out we have to wear our hair up in lab as well as clincals, so I'm going to try to get a little creative!

Awesome! I know at my school it just needs to be out of the face and off the shoulders, but it doesn't necessarily HAVE to be in a bun. Just depends on your hair style / length, I guess.
