Gurnick LVN program... Me=enrolling update

Published

I took the Gurnick (Modesto) entrance exam this morning and passed, so now trying to get a spot in the night program starting next month. I did the FAFSA online and am also waiting for my (proof of) HS diploma to come in the mail... Hopefully fin aid will cover the tuition!

Anyone have exp at Gurnick applying for financial aid? Not sure I can get it because I'm still enrolled at my current college and the quarter ends on Dec. 15th... The pre-req class starts in Nov. I wonder if there is a payment plan.

Just like there were certain real estate and mortgage companies who made bad real estate deals which created the mortgage crisis. But does that mean that ALL real estate and mortgage companies are crooks?? No it doesn't. So you saying that "actually, it often does mean exactly that," is extremely naive.
'

If you re-read what I wrote I said that it often meant exactly that....so I did leave the possibility that there might be a few honest for-profit schools out there. I've never seen one, but they might exist.

And, I think you should check your dictionary, because recognizing the con-men that have been scamming far to many folks for decades now, isn't naive...it's actually the opposite of naive. Assuming that "they're just a business, of course they need to make some money" as they pursue and bilk students for obscene amounts of money....for degrees that may or may not get them a job. Well, that's naive.

I know an acquaintance who is an "admissions counselor" for one of these places. He has a quota of students that he's supposed to sign up each day (if he doesn't it impacts his income). At not-for-profit schools, the counselors don't have quotas...they aren't salesmen, they are counselors. This is one of the biggest illustrations of the difference between these two kinds of organizations.

I guess you just couldn't stay away huh????

Uhm...she started the thread:confused: Y'all are the ones that jumped on her. Go start your own thread to talk about what a fine institution you feel you're going to.

Thank you, CuriousMe. I have received so much helpful advice for and against Gurnick from other people on the boards. These two are entertaining as hell. No worries.

Hmmm.... Looks like some of my posts have been deleted, and certain other ones have been edited...Weird...

Ladies if you are in school or trying to get into school the type of time you are taking tearing each other down could be used studying really. This is why people flunk out getting caught up in silly auguements and easily getting offended by things they can just ignore. You are going to be in school and working with many people who have their own opinions that are very different than yours, and you will have to decide whether to be a nurse and take care of your duties or get caught up in your feelings about what someone said.

I never made it to Gurnick because they put my appointment out so far (which anonoyed) and I had other programs to look at so I decided on something else. And yes as I posted in another thread, just as the other young lady mentioned the prereq fee is kinda shady, as with Uniteks which is 3000. You should not have to pay or go though this type of course if you can pass the entrance exam. Especially if you have already taken A+P as I have. This is one reason I didnt persist on getting into see the concord campus when she stressed this to me on the phone, but on another note I also stopped a current student of Gurnick when I saw her in the community in uniform, and asked about the program and she loved it. She told me alot useful things about the program, which I considered as well.

I did alot of homework and decided on another school that was a bigger commute for me, but the right choice for me. Yes reputation in the medical community did play a part, so I wouldnt knock that piece of advice. If you are getting a quality education hats off to you and I am sure all of you will suceed.

I have seen a negative review on my school and yes I put my two cents in, but honestly one of my goals in being a beacon for my campus is conducting myself as an example and getting good grades so when I and my whole class pass the nclex the proof is in the pudding. Also when we visit the hospitals that we have for clinicals I try to shine so we stand out as knowledgeable students so our reputation, which is already stellar in the medical community can stay that way. Have school spirit ladies just dont get caught up. Be a good nurse and you and your campus will shine. Everyone has their own path, and thank God opinion!!!!

Good Luck and piece of advice study your meds like a beast...lol

LOL!!! So glad you've got better self control and aren't wasting your time posting 450 word posts, but instead are studying

I come on this site to take a moment off from school and see whats going on but yall are way too insane for me. You never give the sacasm and resentment a break huh. Have fun in the workin world girls it should throw you for a loop. Thanx for the giggles and regardless I do wish you the best. I wont try to break up anymore gang wars on here and encourage people to stay focused on nursing. Maybe I will stay on the other side instead of coming to student for awhile...lol

i feel that every school is going to have it flaws...there is no perfect program out there! instead, i try to remain positive, and just keep my focus on the goal at hand...graduating and passing the nclex.

best of luck to you nakinok on your journey of becoming a nurse. i am with you, i am going to leave this board for alone for awhile because the drama here is to much for me.

we are suppose to be here to support and encourage each other regardless of the school we decide to attend, not tear each other down.

The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give to others.

Good luck to everyone on their journeys through the maze of nursing school.

Help I'm frustrated with Gunrick in Modesto. I am suppose to start the LVN program in few weeks but I can't get anyone to call me back. I have called 4 or more times and all I get is that the staff member just stepped away from their desk or they are with another student and they will get back to me. The problem is they never do. Everything they have requested of me I have done, Entrance test, HS dipolma, college transcripts, Fafsa. It's all done. Any suggestions? Any comments. My life is in limbo waiting to find out what is going on. Does anyone know the directory of staff Gurnick for Modesto and their main office? If anyone can help or make suggestions, for that matter if there is any staff from Gurnick that check these boards, please call us back.

The main campus (San Mateo) # is: 650 685 6616. I would call there and tell them what is going on and see if someone can help you. I go to the Concord campus and have called them several times to get info for our campus and they are really helpful.

Best of luck to you!
