GTCC ADN Spring 2015

U.S.A. North Carolina

I know it's early but I just couldn't wait any longer for a thread to be started. I took my TEAS test today and passed!!! I've met with the advisor to do my ranking...so I guess it's 3 months of anticipation and hoping I get it. With the new changes in the criteria for the program I can only imagine more people will apply making it more competitive for a seat in the program. Anybody else planning to apply for Spring?

Admissions can't tell you when new students are supposed to register? The website said that all programs can register 11/18. Do you have a GTCC email yet?

Yes I have gtcc email. The last time I called I was told the end of November and check my registration time online but it's not there and no one wanted to help me today. So I guess I will wait until the 17th and try then

Sorry to hear that. I would think since you've got an active email you should be in the system. Maybe try calling again tomorrow and hope you get someone different and willing to help.

I sent an Email to the Student Success Center and they replied back stating new students couldn't register until the 24th. Make sure you check WebAdvisor though to make sure you have no active restrictions.

Question for those that went to open house; is anyone concerned about having eBooks instead of a traditional hardcover/paperback books? What about they're not really providing "lectures" in class more so "activities"? I heard that this is a new approach to the program; I just wonder if its gonna make learning harder. Thoughts anyone?

Good luck to all of you!!! It's sweet to read your posts as I completely relate since I was in your shoes not that long ago. I graduate in May 2015 from the program. You guys are going to do great.

I personally prefer textbooks, not ebooks. I also prefer lectures. Call me old fashioned but that's just me.

I agree...me as well. I thought I might have been the only one that was ole school. I hope I'm able to adapt to the change and able to keep up. I can't wait to get started though!!!

Hopeful, do you have any tips or advice you can share with us? I'd love to hear about your personal experience in the program.

Future RN

Yes I would too, please share!

Biggest advice I can give you is to learn how to break down nclex questions. There's almost always a little bit of correctness in each possible answer but you have to choose the most correct one. That takes practice. Most of the nclex practice books have introductions in them that will explain this. Pay attention to that part.

Practice taking vitals on everyone you know. Know your normal ranges for vitals before you get there. Learn your labs and values early, you will always need them. Get a good understanding of fluid and electrolytes & acid/base balance because they interplay with everything too. Pay close attention in pharmacology because 1st semester will be the only dedicated pharm class you get.

Pay attention in fundamentals, you really do need all of that info for the rest of your classes.

Fundamentals won't seem easy while you're in it, but by the time you're two weeks into NUR112 you'll be wishing you could go back to NUR111. NUR111 and NUR213 are the only classes that are 16 weeks long. All the rest of them will fly by.

I'm sure there's more to tell but I'm suffering from post clinical day exhaustion right now and can't think of more. If you have specific questions, I would be willing to try and answer them for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this with us!
