GSU FALL 2010

Published

hi to all blson aspirants,

let me start by saying that i am a little bit nervous because fall 2010 applicants are the first that are required to take the teas test. i'm also a little bit excited to have come this far. i'm hoping to get accepted into the fall 2010 program.

i will be keeping in touch with this website as much as i can this semester. to all 2010 nursing school applicants, i sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

Right now, Thursday; might switch to friday if something opens (haven't decided yet).

If anyone has gotten their books already, I have a few questions. Is this the correct version of the health assesment book: Amazon.com: Health Assessment for Nursing Practice (9780323053228): Susan F. Wilson RN PhD CS FNP, Jean Foret Giddens RN PhD APRN BC: Books

It seems as though that the nursing textbook list for fall + our instructor's spring syllabus has a totally different edition listed (just making sure).

Also, is this the correct edition for the dosages class: Amazon.com: Dosage Calculations (9781418080471): Gloria D. Pickar, Amy P. Abernethy: Books

Thanks guys!

You only ever wear your clinical scrub uniform to the lab days or to the hospital. I have encountered a few other days throughout the other semesters where we had the option to wear it for other functions. For anyone considering more than one set...I've made it through 3 semesters with only one set so far and had no problems with it. You won't wear the scrubs for two clinicals (psych and community, the latter of which I'm about to start next week). If I happened to get something on them, I just threw the top or bottom in the wash when I got home.

As for the Thursday/Friday lab days....I had a Thursday one....my advice is keep it if you have it unless you HAVE to change. This fall will be just about the last chance you will have to have a 3 day weekend every weekend. It was also really nice to have those empty days for school work and it gave a decent few day break between classes. I thought that one day made a huge difference. Just my :twocents: though :-)

Thanks izzycatswim---if you don't mind me asking, what do the Nurs 2040* (1 hr)/Conceptual Foundations of Nursing & Trends and Nurs 2080* (3 hrs)/Basic Concepts of Nursing Care entail. I know the former class requires the APA manual, so does that mean we will be writing several research papers?

Thanks

To be honest, 2040 is stupid. The prof knows we all think so and thus makes it kind of hard in that you actually DO have to study for it. There was one paper we had to write on a nursing theorist. The other class...well i found that class to be different for lack of a better word. I thought that HUGE Foundations text book you are supposed to get to be 100% useless. I think I opened it once the entire semester...but that's just me. I'm not big on reading textbooks and it hasn't failed me yet. The prof tells you to read, that it will help you on tests...it was a general consensus in my class that reading didn't really help you at all for the tests....nor did studying the powerpoints. It was one of those classes where I just kind of flew by the seat of my pants on what exactly was the best to study. I went mostly by powerpoints and ended up with a B+. Again...the whole reading thing is totally up to you. I have only found one class where it was necessary for me to read..and that was psych.

Well, it looks like we have to have both Thursday and Friday blocked out for N2160 anyway. If you aren't in lab one day, you'll be in clinical the other so no 3-day weekends for us!

fdlink085 - Concerning books for N2160, I went with the list that the professor emailed out to us. The last time I checked, the syllabus is still the template from Spring 2010 and we are using a new health assessment book. It's the 4th edition with the combined ebook. The bookstore has a bundle with Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference 2011 for $140, which is cheaper than buying the 3 components separately. I'm not sure if we'll need the ebook, I emailed the prof a couple days ago but haven't heard back.

Also, the Dosage Calc book is the 8th edition. The bookstore has it packaged with the uLearn access code, not sure if it'll come with a book ordered somewhere else. You can purchase a code for $31 if you already have the book though.

The textbook list, syllabuses, and book adoption list are all so confusing and quite a headache to decipher! Hopefully, I bought all the right books!!!

You will actually have lab the first part of the semester and then clinical the second part of the semester. So if you have lab on Thursdays, you'll be in lab for the first half of the semester every thursday, and then clinicals for the second half of the semester every Thursday. You don't go to lab Thursdays and clinicals on Fridays. It's one day or the other. Hope this makes sense. And I agree with Izzykat. I had lab/clinicals on Thursdays too, and it was great to have a three day weekend.

I asked Angela Corely about having 2160 lab/clinicals both Thursday and Friday at orientation and she said that we would not have the possibility of a 3 day weekend. I wonder if that's a new thing. Hopefully it hasn't changed and that I have clinicals on Thursday, too!

I'm not sure how you could NOT manage to have a 3 day weekend if one has Thursday lab/clinical. You don't have classes on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. That equates to being a three day weekend I thought :lol2: You only have clinical/lab one day a week this first semester so they won't have added in another day of that.

Thanks, I ended up ordering both books off chegg.com (doesn't include codes/ebook--which I think is just the interactive version of the book-- $89 for both after ship/tax). Most of the books (patho, fundamentals text) that I have received from that rental site are in top shape w/cd.

As far as the lab/clinical schedule is concerned, it would be weird for them to just change their system (way of doing labs/clinicals from previous semesters. Though, anything is possible :/

Datl12345,

When you were taking the history requirement exams, did you just study with the Adobe files provided online or did you purchase some study materials from the bookstore. The links seemed to indicate that they were just for the Constitution exams.

Thanks in advance

When calculating the program gpa, if you have retaken a class, do they average the attempts or do they take the highest attempt?
