GSU Fall 2014 Applications

Published

I couldn't find another thread for GSU fall 2014 so I wanted to create one and hopefully meet all the applicants. Is anyone else as nervous as I am and when should we be expecting those letters?

Congrats meep!

So i got in the traditional track.. But my acceptence letter says i should register for 6 nursing classes that amounts to 18 credit hours... Are they letting me move on ahead since there is space? Or are those classes options that i have to choose from?

Good question. The ACE track is 18 hours first semester, not sure about the traditional. You might want to send an email or give them a call....

Im meeting with my advisor tomorrow to see if she might have some insight

Has anyone been able to do the PINS yet

I haven't been able to do them either. Are we looking in the wrong place?

I thought it would show up on desire 2 learn but i turned in my paperwork on monday and i still dont see it on there

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! I remember being in your shoes last October waiting for my letter! I am currently a 1st semester ACE student and am loving the program! For all you ACE'rs out there, it is A LOT of work but you can do it! Only 2 more weeks for me and I will be done with the first semester!! Still can't believe I've made it this far and how fast it went by!

As far as the Facebook group goes - no, one of you guys will need to make a group and add your colleagues. The staff does not make the group. Our class has one, but not many people are on it. Once you are actually in the classroom, you will start to make friends very fast and you won't really need the group anymore.

Also, someone mentioned something about scheduling for childcare - don't depend on what GoSolar says for your schedule. You will have to come to campus on days that aren't listed for skills check offs and a few other things. They are pretty good at telling you in advance, but you may have to make some last minute adjustments.

Be flexible and be READY TO STUDY A LOT!! If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me. I don't check this every day but I will periodically log on and answer any questions you guys might have!

Congrats again!! :D

Does anyone know if the staff makes a facebook group for us?

Your PINS will show up on D2L…it just may take a few days. The office is super slammed right now with letters, PINS, and also with us current students and registration for summer/fall!

I haven't been able to do them either. Are we looking in the wrong place?

What are all of you taking as far as class scheduling goes? Someone told me to try to take Patho this summer. I took Nurs 2010 last summer but withdrew after I found out from an adviser that my Health & Human Development Psych course was supposed to transfer in place of that one, but they're now telling me I need to take Nurs 2010 again this summer.

Should I take Patho or anything this summer to make fall easier? Is there anyway to get approval from the dean to take more than 18 hours, or is that the absolute cap? Not sure about GSU, but at other schools, taking more than 15-18 is allowed only with dean's permission. I know I sound crazy when this is already the accelerated track, but I have done 16 credits before and worked and still came out with all As and a B-, so I'm thinking that since I won't be working fall semester if it would be possible for me to get approval to take just one extra class. I know I sound suicidal right now....

16-18 credits of gen eds/prereqs are NOT the same as 16 credits of nursing classes. I wouldn't recommend it. You're going to be overwhelmed with how much work the 18 credits of nursing courses are on their own, even without working.

I honestly would not recommend taking more than the 18 hours. I am very good at managing my time and already have a Bachelor's degree and at that time was taking 16 hours AND working 40-60 hours a week as a manager. I can tell you now, that was NOTHING compared to what this semester has been like! And I am not working right now! Meep is right - this is nothing like your pre-reqs!

I don't think the program will allow it anyways. There are only certain classes they let you take early and that is after you have already taken the foundation courses. You have to finish and pass certain clinical courses before starting the next clinical course.

Patho is something I think you can take early, however, since it is not a clinical course. If you want to take anything this summer, yes I would recommend it, if it is offered. However, on the other hand, you might want to enjoy your summer off before you get REALLY BUSY! It is up to you!
