GSU Fall 2014 Applications

Published

I couldn't find another thread for GSU fall 2014 so I wanted to create one and hopefully meet all the applicants. Is anyone else as nervous as I am and when should we be expecting those letters?

Sixela21 - I just checked for you and Patho is not even offered this summer. Only NURS 2010 is listed. Sorry!!

PINS ARE UP!!!

Congrats to you all for getting into the program. I am actually finishing in a couple of weeks and I wanted to see if anyone is in need of (2) GSU nursing uniforms size small. They are still in really good condition and I don't need them anymore. I know that the cost of starting the program can be a little overwhelming, so hopefully this could help someone out. Let me know if you would like them and we can figure out how I can get them to you! Congrats again!!!

Hey there! I have applied for the fall semester and still no letter....I feel like the only person who hasnt heard back yet! I did check my application status online and it said they had my packet on 3-31-2014 and checked off that I had all the items needed. So I know I completed my application packet correctly.

I just hate this wait!

Don't be discouraged! They told me that everyone will have a letter by the end of April. The first letters didn't even go out until the end of the first week of April, so you will be getting one soon--then waitlisted applicants are informed. Keep the hope alive! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Has anyone been able to register yet?

Sixela21 your plate will be full as is w/ the accelerated program. Patho at GSU is not a difficult course but it does require a lot of study time. Not sure if it's offered during the s ummer but depending on what you're taking you probably don't want to add that to your pile. You'll probably be taking that w/ pharm., their med term class, and a few others. The 1st semester in the ACE track is by far the easiest but it still keeps you busy because when you don't have an exam in one class you have it in another.

Concrete Rose, I'm not sure what your background is but I'm in my first semester as an ACE student and by no means is it the easiest. I've been told by several semester 4 ACE students that the 1st semester is the hardest. The material gets more in depth as we go, but this is the foundation semester so EVERYTHING is new.

Also, as far as patho goes, it is NOT easy at GSU. The class averages for exams are low 80s. I have an almost perfect GPA and I've struggled in patho to keep my grade at right around a 90. I have also checked - it is not offered in the summer.

If you are doing ACE, you will be taking 6 courses your first semester. These classes are patho, pharm, health assessment & skills, clinical nutrition, ctw concepts with medical terminology, and a trends course. It totals 18 credit hours, but it should be more because the skills class has added additional lab time (this semester was the first semester they did it and it will probably continue), so you will be taking more like 19.5 credits.

On top of exams, we also have dozens of quizzes (and I mean like almost 100 between the classes), several projects, several papers, several care plans. I study on average about 12-14 hours on my days off. On the days we have class, I am usually too tired to study so I just do small things like make charts etc. This is the consensus for everyone else I've spoken to as well. I just don't want you getting the wrong idea that this is easy at first. Go in with realistic expectations, and you will be just fine!

Perception of a course/semester is completely subjective AMF7 and by no means did I say nor mean to imply that patho was an easy course. I stated it was not difficult and looking back, I say that with confidence. I have many friends that feel the same as well and I have friends that feel the same as you. I gave my opinion, I did not state a fact. When your in it, the first semester definitely feels like one of the most challenging because it's new and all the courses are packed together. When you get to other classes, the content will be more familiar but you will have less time between exams, higher expectations, and more chapters. In theory everything is built on one another but realistically you won't grasp all the concepts well enough in a few days for that to happen.

And youre absolutely correct, you don't know my background. I went through what you and your friends are going through and well beyond. I used to feel like the first semester was the hardest but I realized it was more memorization and less application than the rest. I did not respond in a way to make the reader feel as though the program was easy. At least I did not mean to.

Hi everyone! I am planning to apply for next Fall and curious about the demographics. I graduated from GSU some years ago and wondered what kind of age range I might encounter. Any non-traditional students out there? Concrete Rose and amf 7, can you offer any insight to what you've seen in your classes? Thanks!

Great question. Not sure how much it's changed but 1 1/2 - 2 years ago the program was as diverse as the general university. We definitely had non traditional students. It was a mix of new grads (out of school for at least a year), traditional students (in their junior year), seasoned professionals switching careers, adults w/ children (some actually pregnant) and individuals still working (although it wasn't recommended). It was a melting pot of different cultures.
