groupone sucks

Published

a couple of years ago, while working as a tech i was fired from a big DFW hospital...i didn't put anyone in danger, i just couldn't work the hours, was late... because my doofus husband (now EX) was court ordered to be out of my home and away from my children (unless supervised). i couldn't go anywhere without a babysitter...i was so embarrassed, worried about my kids, and on the verge of a total breakdown, so i didn't tell anyone at this hospital because i just started working there...anyway the manager turned me into groupone(found out about this evil entity after i was denied employment)...now i am a RN and can't find a job...

is it possible to work in dallas, or do i just pack up and find another state to live/work??

gotta love those right to work states. according to their website they are working their way around the country.....it is rather laughable that i had to do the whole FBI background check for the BON, etc, and according to them i am safe enough to practice, over 6 years of hospital experience with no problem, but one manager thinks i was crap, and BAM, i'm unworthy of employment. this too shall pass...

I hate to tell you, you will have a HELL of a time finding work in the major hospitals ie, Colombia, Tenet, Presbyterian, Baylor, Parkland, JPS and many universities use this ungodly system which was to be a good service-to report rouge nurses. Such people with a criminal record, impersonators ect...But if you have a nurse manager with an ax to grind, many use this as a form of retaliation for a nurse they don't like. It's abuses run rampant. You don't work that overtime, come in on days off ,have a different opinion or look like the girlfreind of some nurse managers husband-you will be DNR'd and place on Group One. And they don't tell you they did it or discuss it with you. You just go for a job interview or apply at a college that uses it and THAT is when you find out. This comany hides itself as a "credit reporting agency". It is illegal because no one is supposed to report negative information about your previous employment that could stop you from working somewhere else. I could see if it were "serious". You also should thank GOD that you are an RN, it would be WAY worse for you if you were an LVN. There are numerous LVNs on Group One. Just to make it clear for you, I worked at a hospital where they had a staffing book open, and of the DNR's almost 30 were LVN's and 2 were RNs. I can't prove it, but I believe it was used within the last 10 years to get rid of LVNs in this area because most hospitals started moving towards all RN staff. You may want to order a copy of the report, review it and try to get it cleared up. It can stay on your record many years. Also review other posts on this site to learn more about this disgusting entity!

i tried very hard to clear it up, tried to appeal, it simply doesn't matter. there is no one to help, no law. nothing. and how tricky, to use it against LVN's. when i worked at a big dallas hospital about 5yrs ago, all of the LVNs were sacked within a week with no warning. unions are starting to look good to me. i worked too hard for those letters (RN), i'll be darned if i can't use 'em!

Goodness you guys make me not want to move to Texas...:idea:that is so sad that they would do that. We need more nurses and they are making difficult for some to get in. What about arbitration--maybe settling this somehow?? I wonder how many other states use this? How do you know if you have been "Group Oned"??? Do they let you know?? Is it before or after the job interview?? Do you still get calls for interview? I am just appalled I have never heard of such a thing--they Group One should be Group Oned!!!!:argue:

OK this is very simple. They are a credit reporting agency and credit reporting agencies are easy to handle.

1. Get a copy of your report to see whats on it. You have a right to it under the FCRA. Its free if you are looking for work or have been denied work because of it. This applies to you.

2. If anything on the report is wrong you can dispute it. If it just says you were fired and not eligible for rehire this may be true but you can still dispute it. They have 30 days to verify the information or they must remove it. Any negative information that is harming you must still be proven and that must be done in court. What they are reporting may not be enough. They may need to be more specific.

3. Even if they verify it just sue them in small claims court, but make sure it is the justice court so the formal rules apply. You can do this yourself without a lawyer. Just study up on civil procedure and get some guidance. Chances are they will remove the item rather than fight it. I know what I am talking about. I sued over 60 creditors in court on my own and got my reports completely clean.

4. Under federal law they cannot even release the report to an employer unless you give them written permission. Don't give any future employer permission and if they insist then tell them up front what is on it and see if they care or not. Here is a link that spells out your rights. http://www.gp1.com/faq.asp#q6

You can get it fixed, just do some homework. If you just can't do it then hire a lawyer to do it for you. It should not cost much at all for what this is. There are even free legal clinics out there that help people who are down and out. Just some letters and threats of a lawsuit to both Group One and the employer should be enough to get them to back off. Trust me, it works.:yeah:

That's great to know but does every nurse in Texas have to go through that??!!! My goodness...that is a headache.

GroupOne has only infested the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Including a 100 mi radius outside of the metroplex. Other areas in Texas do not participate and you are hard pressed to find a DFW hospital that doesn't do a background check through GroupOne.

while this post clearly gives good advice, realize that when you fill out an application for employment and don't sign the area giving them permission to do a background and/or credit report, that automatically will raise a red flag to the prospective employer. so i think you need to get a copy of the report and see if it is accurate. don't apply for anymore dfw area positions until you clear this up. also, do you have a copy of your termination record? once you have both of these documents, you can see if there are discrepencies and hopefully that will aid you in your attempt to get this cleared up. i work in tx, and i really wish you luck with this.

i actually spoke to a lawyer and faxing all the paperwork, but most likely won't make a difference. trying to stay positive because i got a call from a recruiter saying a hiring manager would be calling me within the next week, that happens to be in the specialty of my dreams... all i can do is be honest and pray...

Folks, we need to fight fire with fire... If we develop a rating system of hospitals in our areas who do unfair things, put them on the list - as well as the reason for adding them - so that others can check this list and decide for themselves whether or not they want to tolerate that specific poor treatment. If everybody would get together & do it, the hospitals would be showing a heck of a lot more respect for nurses, because if they are added to the list and other nurses would check the list before accepting a position w/them, they'd be sure to straighten up. I wonder what the legalities of this would be... If they can get away with this, so should we. Any ideas?
