Any St. Louisans out there? I'm interested in getting my Bs online, but want it in psychology, not nursing. I've done that for 30 years and am tired of it. School nursing's great, but the pay stinks. I want to get into something else for a career change totally different from nursing but don't know which direction to go in, any suggestions?
Name: Cindy Clark
Location: Between Columbia and Jefferson City

Just got approved for a gorgeous 5 BR home on 3 acres!!!
RN for over 16 years
Speciality: Psychiatry
I am now working at a Women's Maximum Security Correctional Center in Missouri and I love it~ The staff is great with CMS and it's great how CMS nurses and myself work so well together in ensuring that each of the mentally ill inmates get what they need. I am subcontracted by CMS to provide Mental Health services in the prison. I work with 5 or 6 therapists, 2 secretaries and 3 psychiatrists for 1800+ women in the prison! I am the ONLY nurse in Mental Health so you know I am busy, busy, busy~!
Hope to meet new friends on here for support and encouragement.
I am always here to help if needed. Glad to be here. :balloons:

RN for 2 years
Speciality: CVICU and now CCU
I worked in an awesome university setting in St. Louis until the military uprooted us June 2003 and am now trying to enjoy my new CCU job in a small community hospital. I am considering a commute to the KC/Independence area as I dont want to lose some of my skills.
Hope to meet others too :)
Cindy, I too will be moving to MO. The K.C. area. I have 18 yrs.
psych. experience. It sounds like the nursing market isn't too
good down there for psych. nurses. I'm trying to do some research about what to expect with the hospitals. Do they have
block schdules? Can I work part time and get benefits? How little can I work & get benefits. Any feed back would be appreciated. M
Hello! The job market in Missouri is pretty sad right now. Oh sure there are tons of traveling jobs or contract jobs but only in speciality areas like CCU or Med Surg. I am specialized in Psych and I will tell you that there is nothing available in my area. I know that KC has a huge hospital "Western Missouri" that has psych and there is a Two Rivers Hospital that deals with only psych in KC. Otherwise you have to go to St. Louis to find positions in psych. I wish you all the best in finding a position for you. I have done all kinds of psych in Missouri but most of the places that I have worked for, have closed down. I know of other places but they are pretty far away from KC.
Thanks for writting. Where in Mo. west of Moberly? I'm going to
be looking for work down there so I'm gathering information about where to apply. We don't need to be near K.C. but I thought the best chance of getting a job would be near the city.
I'm curious about the benefits there. I need to work for health
insurance for the family. Any information you can give me to help
would be very much appreciated. Maggie
