green tube on "Survivor"

On the March 1st episode when Michael was burnt, they gave him a green tube and had him breath in. I heard one of the medics say it was an anesthetic. What was that? I've never seen anything like that before. Thanks!

I thought it was an inhaled opiate, because he was getting sedated and his pupils were pinpoint when they put him in the heli, just a guess, But, if anyone knows for sure, hope they write in. NN

You guys read my mind. I fully expected the medics to give him a pain killer but they suprised me with the inhaled thing. Maybe it is an Austrialian thing that has not been approved in this country.

I've seen this once on an episode of "Paramedics"-so maybe it is an EMS thing? Never seen it used in Minnesota rigs, tho--

I wondered if maybe it was nitrous oxide? It has pain relief effect. Maybe one of our Aussie posters will sign on and let us ignorant Americans know what it was!!

There used to be a similar item used in OB, it was a short acting inhaled anesthetic, the mom would use it like Michael did and it looked simular. Since the pt holds it, as soon as s/he gets too sleepy, their hand falls away, and they would wake back up. So the Mom could breathe thru a contraction with the device. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name. Penthrane? I'll try to dig it up. It's not used anymore in L&D, puts the kid night-night, too.
