Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

That's what I always say. These instructors should know that when they take until a minute before midnight on that Sunday it's due back to you to give it back, they are preventing you from correcting your mistakes for the next assignment. This info is in their instructors manual but the dumb manual apparently doesn't have a time written in there of when to return by Sunday. (I did not see that in the manual).

Wow, I was not aware of this crap! So, now we are going to start a new division? Like BSN from physically attended university to one online? If this is what employers are going to do, they are going against everything recommended in the IOM's Future of Nursing Report, which recommends nurses have many facilitated ways to obtain their BSNs. Grrrrrr :banghead::sniff:

I don't take issue with people warning others to do their homework on potential online RN-BSN programs, I think it's sound advice. If one does not recognize that there are indeed programs out there that will swindle and lie about their accreditation, transferrability, etc., then you deserve what you get if you sign up for "Harold and Kumar's Lightening Path to your BSN!" program. What makes me C.R.A.Z.Y is that people are lumping GCU into that bag, and somehow coming to the conclusion that any entity that is for-profit is a colossal idiotic move. What-evah.

Do for-profit hospitals deliver less quality care than county hospitals? The county hospital in my area has a nationally recognized burn unit that trumps anything our tons of for-profits can do for a burn victim; in fact, they will fly a patient there because they know the care is phenomenal and that patient wouldn't stand a chance at their facility. Like tokmom said to the OP of that ridiculous thread, this is an old argument and not worthy of stirring the pot again. I can only hope that if/when I ever choose to look for another job, the HR person isn't some 22 year old twit that overheard two local state university students talking in an elevator and forever based her opinions on quality of education on that alone. I had the opportunity to attend the local state university and proudly passed that right on by and went with GCU. Oh, and another thing that OP needs to separate is the b/m vs. for-profit. She's got too many variables in her argument to lead to one conclusion and is confusing the issue. People tend to think that for-profit is synonymous with online, which, as we all know, it is not, as GCU IS a b/m university that just happens to offer an online option (exactly as the state univ's do).

This is the same type of discrimination with having an ADN versus a BSN....will it ever end?! I worked per diem at a place a year ago and they were asking for transcripts to ensure that every nurse had graduated from college (ridiculous, and it was only for new hires!). You cannot sit for boards without that...when I took my transcripts in I took an opened and unopened copies (I lived in a big city and went to 3 different community colleges, plus my fluff first term at a university). Asked them I can give you one or the other, but the unopened ones will cost 45 dollars for me to replace....they took the opened ones, which made no sense to me at all, it is so easy to fake/change those!!! SMH!!!

Wow, was it some non-nursing idiot that thought anyone could just randomly sit for the NCLEX?

Thanks, I am glad that there is a choice! Does retirement count as a topic :lol2:

Your PICO could be: How much sanity does a nurse have left at retirement age. Or...Do nurses suffer from increased dementia versus non nursing people :roflmao:

This is why I always had Friday as my submit date. I gambled on having an early return so I knew what I needed to fix for the next paper. It didn't always work and many times, as you all know, there could easily be a couple weeks of assignments on the line.

Prism, your post where you mention variables, sounds like something you learned in statistics!:roflmao:

Hey everyone, have you ever noticed that sometimes you log in to the class room and strange things happen? Earlier today I logged in and I get an almost blank screen, I'm like ok, where is my stuff? So what you should probably do when weird things happen is close your browser and reopen it. Sometimes Firefox (if you use that) will need to update itself. That usually takes care of it for me. Other times I may have to shut down the computer because Windows needs to update.

Totally true and good tip - when that happens to me I kinda freak out because chances are I have 5,492 tabs open at the top (articles I'm referencing, OWL, Thesaurus.com, the GCU library search results that took me 1/2 hr to find...), and I can't close/reopen or I'll lose everything. It only happens in Chrome though, so when it does and I'm stranded, I'll just open up Explorer and hit up LC that way.
