Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
$19.99???? Crap, I got robbed!
But wait, there is MORE! GCU will send you a wallet sized diploma, so you can wow your friends at your next bbq!
Uh, yeah, remember the Freshman Fifteen? I think this is the BSN Bulge! And, I'm not kidding, there is seriously something called "sitting disease", and I think I have it LOL. No lie, Google it, it's a real thing, man!
I believe it! I have gained a good 8-10 lbs from sitting on my butt for well over a year. My body is paying for it. I'm so out of shape.
I thought....thought..about going forward with an MSN, after I pay down my student loan, but man, I don't think I can sit like this again!
so who is bashing? you mean GCU?
One of many, of course. There was another I cannot find now, was about online vs b/m. One poster who works with a hiring committee would hire a b/m over an online BSN. So I guess she would hire a random newbie who did nothing but show up for work, over me, who is certified, has developed programs, and has won multiple awards. Her reasoning, in so many words, was that b/m actually earn their degrees.
The one below can't believe people would willingly go to schools like THE Grand Canyon.

I would have to double 3 times. School would be my full time job and work would take a back seat. I will be losing my medical insurance 7/1/15 due to divorce and I need to find a full time job by then. I could always find one now, but I would like to get school out of the way first while I have the chance and don't have to work full time.
I think if you can swing it, have time and feel as though you will retain what you learn, then go for it. I could barely hang on with kids, work, family and school.
Seeing this talk about capstone, and saving articles has me wondering....what are good topics for capstone? I have been using PERRLA so I am hoping that will help at the end as well.
PEERLA was very convenient for the capstone. All my references were right there, so all I had to do was drop them in the paper.
People seem to write about common problems in nursing. I saw post op n/v, burnout and compassion fatigue (mine), workplace bullying and lateral violence (Pandora), hypoglycemic with ERH and if it decreases the incidence of.
Personally, write about something you have some passion or knowledge with. Otherwise, it's going to be painful! LOL! I was going to write about CHF and if bridging to the outpatient side helps decrease the incidence of re-admits. It was something I know a lot about, because I sat on a committee that helped develop a program that now has gone regional. However, even though CHF is interesting and I'm proud of my program, burnout and compassion fatigue is my passion and lights a fire in me, therefore, it was easier to write.

This is the same type of discrimination with having an ADN versus a BSN....will it ever end?! I worked per diem at a place a year ago and they were asking for transcripts to ensure that every nurse had graduated from college (ridiculous, and it was only for new hires!). You cannot sit for boards without that...when I took my transcripts in I took an opened and unopened copies (I lived in a big city and went to 3 different community colleges, plus my fluff first term at a university). Asked them I can give you one or the other, but the unopened ones will cost 45 dollars for me to replace....they took the opened ones, which made no sense to me at all, it is so easy to fake/change those!!! SMH!!!

Thanks, I am glad that there is a choice! Does retirement count as a topic

Wow, I was not aware of this crap! So, now we are going to start a new division? Like BSN from physically attended university to one online? If this is what employers are going to do, they are going against everything recommended in the IOM's Future of Nursing Report, which recommends nurses have many facilitated ways to obtain their BSNs. Grrrrrr

Hey really? I will get a wallet size diploma? That's so cute! I will wow my friends and family with that at our bbq, my family is obsessed with bbq's so that will work out great for me!
OK, so I have assignment # 2 waiting to be submitted, I have it sitting in the turnit in basket with a 6% similarity, but I was waiting for the instructor to give me back the week 1 assignment, man this lady is soooo slooowww!

I think we should start a revolution - some way to get the mandatory grading for the instructors down from 7 days to 6 (ahem, I mean "seven days down to six", if I'm applying APA to my blurb). If they were required to return graded assignments by Saturday MN instead of Sunday MN, we'd have an entire day to learn from previous errors (well, according to THIS instructor's grading method anyway) and correct before submitting. Isn't that what we're doing here? Learning? How can I incorporate learning into subsequent assignments if I don't know the outcome of my prior work before I submit new? I'm serious here; the negative impact of one less day of grade time for instructors couldn't possibly outweigh the positive impact of thousands upon thousands of students' ability to improve their work. Let's use some of these fab critical thinking skills we all have, folks.
