Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Hi Noodles,You know, like Prism said, I am a bit of a geek myself so I have enjoyed all the classes, I don't mind group work if we could meet in person or skype or something, it's just really difficult when you have to write about all communications so the teacher can see you're participating. I love that they make you write a lot of essays because that has really gotten me past my fear and slowness at writing. I feel like I have learned to write professionally and I'm very happy about that. The collaborative work you do with others prepares you to author professional papers with others that can be published in those nursing journals. If you think about it the group work also prepares you to collaborate in textbook writing if you want to do that one day too.
What? You mean we are actually learning? And I thought GCU was just a diploma mill and all we did was send in our 19.99 and get a diploma in 4-6 weeks! Go figure...
(sorry, after reading the bashing threads, I could not resist, lol).
The trick to answering those DQs is to find a little something that grabs your interest, even if it's someone else's reply and usually someone will write something that you can latch onto and go write on. I really like it when people share their work experiences because that is always interesting!
That is exactly what I did. I created where I could to make it meaningful and a lot less boring.

$19.99???? Crap, I got robbed!

Noooo, I can honestly say I have written and worked my ***off and I feel like I am so much more aware of nursing on a global scale than I ever was. I might keep going but I really have to think about it because I have gained too much weight sitting on my bum!

Uh, yeah, remember the Freshman Fifteen? I think this is the BSN Bulge! And, I'm not kidding, there is seriously something called "sitting disease", and I think I have it LOL. No lie, Google it, it's a real thing, man!

Seeing this talk about capstone, and saving articles has me wondering....what are good topics for capstone? I have been using PERRLA so I am hoping that will help at the end as well.
BTW...the gym calls to me and my developing rearward says
Wow! Not the diet, (sounds yummy), but doubling up. What classes have you taken and or what is left?
JRich doubled. She may have some insight.
Hi Tokmom,
So far I have taken Professional Dynamics, Spirituality and Statistics. I start Research next week. After I complete Research my advisor says I can double up or overlap classes. I think overlapping classes by one week might be an easier method, but it would only cut down my time by 5-6 weeks rather than 15.
How many times would you have to double? I only did it once (but by the time I finally found out about doubling up I could only do it once). I am single, no kids, and work 3-4 12's every week. It is doable. No social life at all. I did Trends and Leadership at the same time. It wasn't fun, but I'm happy I did it.
