Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Thanks! I am about to start my 5th class this Monday and have 10 more to go? I haven't seen where anyone has taken 15 classes? I have ask advisor multiple times to double check and all he tells me is that it is correct.

If you go on the gcu website you can see the list of classes that are required for the program. You can match up ones you've taken before and ones you need to take to see how accurate it is.

I always double check the advisors because the school just wants our money. They aren't interested in having us finish quickly!

Guess it al depends on what classes u took as part of ur ADN program......I took 12. 10 from the core RN program......got to skip Ethics and 1 other....but still had to take 2 "anything" classes to get the required # of credits to graduate!

If you want to make sure...email their supervisor....When my adviser emailed me back, it also included her supervisors email addy. Many of these advisers don't truly know much, lol They just plug in the classes. My adviser had no clue what classes I could take for the "anything" classes! Totally useless.

I would ask for my past education to be re-evaluated!! and if adviser says no..or u dont think she did it...get in touch with supoerviser and they should be able to explain why you need 15 classes...if they can't give you an answer....something is fishy.....they cant just say u need 15 and not say why.

Actually..all of us that graduated..emailed the school and said..ADD ON MORE CLASSES and every class should have at least 2 group projects, lol

Any chance anyone out there has a list of some of the elective classes ,I'm not being told anything about the track I am in and the response was to contact the advisor from the supervisor real helpful because no one is answering my questions.

No I don't, but want to reach out to my advisor and see what she can give me as I need to take one myself. Anyone have any recommendations? I'll send u a pm if I get a list.

Thanks NayNaeRN

I'm just uneasy about all this as I thought it was all required and I so close to the end . I have 2 more post before I can pm . I appreciate everyone's help. I put alot of work into it and I hope it's not for nothing:(

yes u have put in alot of work and should get answers. I would ask for the supervisors for their boss as no 1 can tell you anything...I'm guessing they will get off their butt and find you the answer...they are being lazy!

When it came to finding electives (anything classes) I looked at the school catalog https://www.gcu.edu/Documents/Academic-Catalog/2015-2016-Fall-Academic-Catalog.pdf looked in leadership and research.....think looked at 300 level classes

Thanks Flames 9_RN you are so informed I certainly do appreciate your time and effort more then I am receiving from my advisers. I told them to contact me by email over the past 2 days as I have been working I told them specifically I leave @6 am and do not get home until 815 pm. So what do they do they call my home at 10 am and tell me to call them. Again they are not listening.

I feel ur pain!! I had a few advisers..I think 3...over my time at GCU...1st 1 was excellent...2nd one, didnt have much interaction...and the third one was nice, but clueless! She was nice to remind me she had her masters degree.....masters of BS maybe, lol Only help she was in changing profs........You can ask for a new adviser I believe.....Another option may be to call 1-855-GCU-LOPE and ask to speak to a faculty member in the nursing program!!

Wow I never thought of that speaking to actual faculty member great advice!

Can anyone who recently attended GCU on line pm me with the instructors they thought did a good job with PATHOPHYSIOLOY AND THE CAPSTONE . Also what other electives beside 308V and health care systems can I take without group projects thanks in advance!

Hi Tokmom

I don't know if you have seen any of my recent posts ,but any help you can offer I am open to. I have been talking with Flames _9 she is awesome. Looking for some insight to the electives I guess the only ones we can take is HLT 300 level classes from what I can make out. Any way I'm thinking I want to take different ones that they are offering me this 308 and 314 class do not look very appealing to me any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
