Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Careybts, thanks for the congrats! And to be honest time flew by so fast! Now about Capstone it is not easy, it's very time consuming, at times it seems like your doing the same assignment over agin but in most cases it's the last class before graduating so it's worth the hassle. 8 or the 15 articles I believe have to be research articles pertaining to the same topic.

8 of the 15 have to be researched based on your chosen topic. You get one topic for 5 weeks, every paper is about that topic. Choose well in Research and you will have one of your assignments done for Capstone (PICO). Choose really well and get those articles picked out and you will have another big chunk done as well. Read and mark up the important parts! Importance to nursing, important stats. etc...

Okay Intro to research starts on April 20th... I feel the palpatations coming on!

Careybts - I start intro to research on the 20th also. :)

If you come up with your PICOT statement and find those 15 peer-reviewed articles ahead of time you are laughing. 1 has to remember articles have to be within 5 yrs... which can add some bumps in the road....as for some subjects, lot of the research was completed over 5 yrs.

For articles to be credible they need to be less than 5 years old, unless they are works of art or a landmark study (seminal) etc, but we are supposed to be using only those since like class 2 or 3. (Although there are those people, shall I bring up CLCs again?)...if you are having difficulty finding articles for your subject you need to get in contact with a librarian. The rubrics allow some leeway on this as well. For Transitions of Care for patient's with CHF, I could use articles about CHF. I have a topic that is not as researched as say CAUTI, VAP, and many others that my classmates are doing and yet there were more articles than I could fit into my Lit. Review. My instructor was available to assist with looking for articles if anyone needed the extra help on those obscure research projects. If there is not the 15 articles than it sounds like a new research project may have to be considered as this project requires previous research. There are so many awesome subjects in nursing that I think everyone should be able to find something that is researched enough to come up with 8 research/15 credible articles. What is your Capstone on that you are having such a hard time coming up with the articles?

Well Monday is the day and I am more nervous now than ever before. After my transcripts were reviewed it appears I have too many credits to transfer! Ugh... So they GCU has requested I take 2 electives for a Masters. Ok I haven't been in school in ever and am so worried I am not going to go through a progression to re learn. I couldn't write a paper today to save my life. I have been reading here, lit reviews? I don't even remember them.. I guess time for big girl pants, gulp. Any advice???

Mommao - I had been out of school for 30 years. It comes back to you, like riding a bicycle. It is amazing how much better I write now compared to my first class.

When I am done with the class I start on Monday I am halfway there. Before you know it, you will be saying the same thing.

I am in the GCU MSN online program with leadership focus. Just in week 4 of first class (NURS-502). Is there anyone in this program? Or that has completed? I am looking for tips and recommendations. I did not know anyone that has attended GCU. So far I like it. Thanks for your help.

Supnurse, that is awesome that your in the MSN program. I don't think anyone here has started the MSN program yet. Did you get your BSN from GCU and if so how many classes do you have to take for the Masters program? Oh, Welcome!
